  • Maybe it is back to work syndrome! Not helped now by fact DH has rung up to say he cannot use his card to get petrol on motorway - I rang Bank and someone has tried to do a transaction on our account for about £500  but being the ever efficient bank they are they have spotted it and blocked our cards and the transation. He only has one card to use and this is now blocked, they have agreed to unblock it for half an hour for him to get petrol and now I can't get hold of him to tell him  Oh the joys!

    :heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:
  • Managed to get in touch with him finally and he has taken some money out and now card is blocked again. We have to wait two weeks for a new card though so I suppose that's one way of making sure we don't spend any more, not letting us have any! Am going tohave to go to Bank on way home and draw out what we will need for the coming week and stick to it, no more inpulsive switch purchases for me now :j

Apparently they also tried to take £1 out for Apple and then the cheeky swines thought they would up it to £514  Glad the Bank was on the ball though, could have been very nasty......

It is a pain - I wonder why it takes sooooooo long to get a new card? Major pain is that for some reason mine and DH's cards have identical long numbers, 3 digit security card etc so we both lose our cards.

Makes you realise though that it can happen to you.

You never know though that I might be richer in 2 weeks because of this - maybe I should go out for the meal with my friend after all, try to use my card and when it is refused she will offer to pay :rotfl: or maybe not :D

I have to say it was the best short term savings plan I've had :rotfl:

Our bank didn't know whose card it was so had to cancel both as well, mum lent us a few quid which I still need to pay back uh oh forgot! :o

What a nuisance, to say the very least! I hope you manage to get it all rectified pretty quickly.

Also hope that the "back to work" head has now settled and that things are a bit less foggy for you x

  • Have had a complete bum of a last 24 hours! two bosses went off for a long lunch yesterday and came back saying that needed a "chat" with us :(

There are lots of changes in the legal system, we are getting paid less per case, people not being charged etc and work is slowing down. They basically said we should prepare ourselves for being made redundant if we do not get a big case in before Christmas

We had the promise of a massive case at the end of last month but it has been re-bailed to the Police Station until next year so that security net has gone. It may be the case is charged and business is up and running again when that happens, but it is all about ifs......

Looked around last night for jobs and they are few and far between as everyone in a similar line is suffering and making redundancies, I know at least 5 people who have lost their jobs recently and are still looking.

Feeling mildly stressed, am trying to be positive by thinking I have an income protection plan that covers 75% of my wages in the event of sickness or redundancy and I can recoup the other 25% by pulling DS out of nursery and having no travel costs. This pays for 12 months. I suppose it is just the uncertainty of what to do next. I am thinking of looking round to re-train as something else but I have no idea what.

Added to this, I have been inundated with comments like; you don't need to work, DH earns loads, you will manage if you don't find something  We won't manage if I don't get another job within 12 months but it is assumed we can live on one wage -hmmmm don't think so.

So, now I need to be proactive in thinking about my career as well as debt busting. I really thought that if I could get rid of my debt in the next 2 years as well I wouldn't have to work full time and could spend more time with the kids.

Ah well, I suppose these things are sent to test us? On a bonus, I did my online weekly shopping for £50 last night and that included chocolate to cheer me up.

If anything, this will make me more determined to try and save money and pay off the debt to lessen the stress.

    Ok vent over...............

Oh blackangel I'm sorry to hear that - what a worry. It's great that you have the income protection plan, and you sound like a resourceful person so I have no doubt you will find something else if the need arises. We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed that a nice juicy case comes your way.

I'm ashamed to ask something so trivial when you have weighty worries BUT... you mentioned recently getting a big reduction on some rail fares. I have to book some rail tickets (four different routes) so I'd be really grateful if you have any quick tips to save me spending a whole day checking out different options. But please only quick tips, please don't spend any time answering.

  • Hi Sea

I am going to try and stay positive and keep looking, Just wonder if this is the time to look at a career change but no idea what else I can do.

For my train tickets I costed how much it was for a return, looked at the stations it called at and then broke it down into three journeys i.e. from my home town to Newcastle, i had to change at Sheffield and Doncaster so I simply got a single to Sheffield, single to Doncaster and then single to Newcastle and did the same for the return. I did the purchasing on trainline.com and cannot believe how much I have saved and how much cheaper it was not to get to a return.

How many of you are travelling? I don't mind having a look around as I am sat at work simply not in the mood to work now! I have even signed my colleage up to Tesco.com, devised him a menu plan and done his shopping for £20! I am aiming to get him to stop spending more than he earns :)
