I don't really understand how all that works! Does "at fault" just mean "couldn't find anyone else to blame"? And how does the reduction in no-claims years work? Why isn't it zero years?
Pretty much - no recovery of costs made.
The policy will outline how no-claims works. Usually steps back by two years for one claim, from a maximum of 5 or 6.0 -
I had a renewal figure of £360 with Aviva. I used the guide on this site this afternoon, first Google, cheapest came out at £215 and the quotes tended to go up in £5 increments. Then Compare the Market...and the cheapest was £320?!
So I actually went with the first on the google list.. Admiral, which ended up at £240 with extras. Really pleased and perhaps if I'd spent an hour or more extra using the other comparison sites I might have got it a bit cheaper. Still, saved myself £120 so can't complain too much! Thanks MSE.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
OK, so this starts with my fault for letting my car insurance auto renew, as I was too busy to check for better offers. I am within the 14 day cooling off period, so had a quick look online, starting with Google as suggested. Quotes came up £80 cheaper per year, so rang my current insurer. They were unable to improve on their offer, even though they knew I was going to go elsewhere otherwise. So I bit the bullet and have changed provider, saving myself £80 this year, and will cancel my current policy tomorrow. :T0

Hi
can anyone advise,
been looking for car insurance for daughter in-law, using the compare sites, all ask if you got any non unspent convictions, which she has , except the below 'directline' see below.
So as they don't ask ,does she have to volunteer that info or not, as it only asks the below on web site.
'also cant understand what a conviction not related to car in any way should effect insurance, understand if it was hit and run, police chase something do with conviction with your car or related to a vehicle, can someone explain why, thanks'
Have you had any accidents or claims in the last 3 years, regardless of fault?
Details of claim should include any accidents, claims or losses, regardless of fault.
Yes
No
Have you had any motoring offences including convictions, endorsements, fixed penalties, bans or points in the last 5 years?
Yes

The reason why they require info on convictions other than motoring is to see what sort of person you are - http://hub.unlock.org.uk/knowledgebase/insurance-convictions-simple-guide/0 -
ok thanks for that link, very helpful, will get her to check out brokers.
but do you think the question below applies to her?
'including convictions' does that mean motor convictions?

This question is only asking about motoring offences. However, in insurance contracts there is a general obligation to disclose all risk factors to the insurer (these contracts require utmost good faith, "uberrima fides").
Of course, the real question is what would happen in the event of a claim, which I can't answer, but in principle there is an obligation to disclose.0 -

For consumer insurance, the obligation now is to answer all questions accurately.

Just thought I'd let you guys know (for those who don't already) how competitive NFU mutual were for my car insurance quote.
My renewal price was £259 including legal cover from Endsleigh.
Ran all the comparison sites in the order recommended and Hastings Direct came out best at £190.
I rang Endsleigh and they came down to to £217.
My brother had said to try NFU mutual so I gave them a call, spoke to a nice girl called Rachel who went through all the usual questions and then came back with a price of £165 - very impressed!
They don't seem to have an online quotation system but you should give them a call once you've done the online quotes.
Regards, Dean.
Thanks for this tip, I got the cheapest quote from NFU after looking at quite a lot of comparison sites and the 2 main cashback sites. They were really friendly too. So worth a try.0 -
Just organised my son's first car insurance and best quote I received was £1132 and then I added both my wife and myself to his policy as additional drivers and the quoted tumbled to £697 for a 10 month accelerator policy with Admiral. Wow, so pleased I followed the MSE tips to reduce the premium, the policy requires the black box but with no curfews etc.The quote was through moneysupermarket.com, there were big differences between all the comparative websites for the same insurer (Admiral), so it's worth checking them all.0
