  • Thanks to MSE.
I followed your advice and saved myself more than £500 annually and got the renewal for a far less excess. Instead of MoneySupermarket that I used last time, I used Confused.com and now cant wait to claim my FREE BRAIN toy :)

    Advice from this article:
Churchill*, Direct Line* and Privilege* also offer multi-car discounts and are worth adding to your list to try.

I've just had the displeasure of trying to obtain an online multicar quote with Privilege. It turns out that the following statement is on their website:

'Our multi-car discount is available to new and existing Privilege customers.
Insure your first car with us and you can then get a quick quote on other cars at the same address and benefit from our multi car discount.'

An equivalent statement appears on Churchill and Direct line sites too. Interestingly all 3 of the insurers in question are underwritten by U K Insurance Limited.

Despite the girl at the Privilege call centre admitting that the advice was unclear she stated that there is supposed to be a work-around to obtain a MC quote for new customers. In the end I gave up.

I think this article should make it clear that the multicar discounts are only available to someone who has already or is willing to insure one car with them first.
  • Hello,

Not sure if posting in the right section of the board but here goes.

I'm a new driver, 24 at the moment, 25 in next month. Took out a policy last september for a car for a 12 month policy with Ingenie (who for young drivers are actually well priced).

Anyway, got an email from compare the market saying "Hurry - your car insurance needs renewing this week"

But they don't offer quotes for >30 days ahead. SO my question is, whats the point of renewing now?

Surely I can just wait until I turn 25, then leave 30 days between my quote and policy start date (to get cheapest quote). right?

Was the above thing a marketing email, or to get cheapest deals should i renew now? (27th july)

    Confused
  • Can anyone give me advice on my car insurance, I'm on a learner policy on my own car but booked in for my test soon. I'm currently paying monthly, but will be getting some money next month which would cover the remaining premium.

What I can't seem to find out is whether this is something that can be done? I signed up to monthly but have been informed it will increase by ~£40 a month when I pass my test & won't be able to afford that going out with the rest of the additional costs (fuel, etc) so was hoping I could pay off my premium early. Extensive searches online have only succeeded in me being more confused.

    Thanks

Is it maybe 12 months since you got quotes from CTM and used 1st August or similar as a start date?

Sounds like simple marketing to me.

Rather than paying it early, could you not use the cash to pay future monthly premiums?

Forget the extensive online searches - only your insurer can tell you if you can pay it in full now - but I don't see why not.
  • Hello,

I was getting some good offers for car insurance lately from google compare and I went with one one the first three from Hastings Essential. I've check all my details and confirmed it, but next, they give me a message
    "Unable to proceed
We're sorry but based on the information you provided and having checked your details we regret we will be unable to proceed with this policy
    "
I was calling them, waiting for like 40min, and after someone from Hasting Essential checked too and getting the same message, the guy said he can't do anything about that.
How is that possible? Is this a trick or something? Is Hasting Essential serious or just a scam?

Do MSE specifically list insurance companies who offer MULTI CAR cover ?
I have just tried "Direct Line" and discovered that they do not offer true Multi car cover (despite claiming to) - you have to take out two separate policies and inform them on the second that you have another - way too much effort !!

I thought they offered Multi Car Discount.

Any particular reason why you want a multi car policy?

    2 cars
And we both need to be able to drive each others cars - with the cost of a multi car policy being considerably less than 2 separate policies !!
