Why is wanting immigration controls considered right wing?
Presumably because some of those on the left don't like it, so it's right wing. Right wing is seen as nastier, so I guess it's just the label that's been attached.
The guardian are always describing them as far right wing, so maybe that's where it started?
That's the question no politician could answer and were silenced by last night.

I meant the journalist

I am old enough to remember the 70s when some of the most fervent anti immigration organisations were trade unions. Doubt thet considered themselves right wing.Graham_Devon wrote: »Presumably because some of those on the left don't like it, so it's right wing. Hamish's approach is to smear the party.
It has been on every single thread about them. Whether it's to accuse the party of being racists. Whether it's to accuse their party members of being racist, or their voters.
It could be stating, in a factual way that the party has made a statement that they have never made. (his opening post).
It could be making out that the only reason that no one can answer is because they are so stunned they cannot physically speak.
It could be taking a real new article and editing it to make it look like something else on a forum, with no reference to the fact he's edited it. Those edits usually include removing entire paragraphs, or just single sentences to remove context or change how it's read.
Whatever it is, it's smearing.
Though, to be fair to Hamish, this is a tactic that all parties, and many members of the public use to fight, or knock down a political party and it's supporters.
It's just a shame it's so blatant with Hamish and quite so easy to make a mockery of.
Alistair Campbell.....now theres a bloke who knows how to do what Hamish is doing...and knows how to do it VERY well.
On a personal level, it's amusing for me at least as after all this he runs around the forum accusing me of muddling things.0 -

Graham, there is however an awful lot of ammunition to use against UKIP.
They have had to distance themselves from a number of their own candidates in this and previous elections due to some rather unpleasant comments and views expressed. Whilst they always state these are not the views of the party (on topics from disability, Gay rights, women's rights, abortion, rape.... etc etc), the party does seem to attract those with such views.
The recent re-branding into a mainstream party is interesting, particularly the claims its a not a right wing party.0
