Drives me mad that I have to pay up to an EXTRA £20 at some places because my hair is long! Admittedly it's waist length, but I just have a trim and a few layers put through it. The "long hair surcharge" seems quite fashionable these days, great way to rip people off...

I have long hair too, not waist length but to my bra strap, maybe a bit longer, even a couple of groupons lately have said £10 extra for the longer hair.
I was talking to one of the girls who was doing my hair the last time and she said that the colours they use when doing highlights cost 7 pounds a tube, a lot of mark up in some places.0 -
Has anyone ever used one of these things advertised in the shops that you use to cut your own hair.
I saw them in Lidl a few months ago.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

An old boss of mine used to pay a fortune to get her long hair trimmed. It was almost waist length, and it was very straight and thick. Maybe the texture of it meant that you could see every mistake, but I still think charging someone just because they've got long hair is unnecessary! They don't knock money off if you've got very short hair, do they :rotfl:The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
I dont go very often tbh but last month I paid £28 for a cut and colour, luckily they charge the same price for long/short hair as mine is halfway down my back!
At the college its about £10 for the same, both including blow dry. although took a very long time!
The cheaper places tend to be in the suburbs rather than the town where rents are higher.:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
North London, my barber charges £7.50 for just a haircut, but a decent one. Few along Blackstock Road, Finsbury park are around a fiver. My son goes to one in Stoke Newington and they charge £20 so it's deffo shopping around. :cool:0

I mostly ignore mine and let it grow. Saves a fortune. About twice a year, once it's around my waist, I'll get it cut up to about my shoulder blades, either by my granny with a pair of kitchen scissors or for £8 at the hairdresser.0

I used to pay £68....yes £68 for cut colour, which at the time I thought was reasonable. Having adopted mse ways now have £18 cut and use nice and easy to colour. My hair has never looked so good. Smaller salons not quite so image conscious appear to have the best deals.SCP # 034

I have a friend who is a mobile hairdresser but has a small salon in the back of her nans, I have "long" hair to the top of the bottom of my back (if that made sense). I had 2 colours put though it the other day, a brown on the top and then a blond (I'm naturally blond anyway but to even the colour) on the bottom with some highlights running though, wash cut straightened and then some curls put though it for £35 if I had gone to a salon it would of been easily double this!!!
She also does waxing and nails, as I'm going away I thought I would treat myself so had a half a leg wax, eyebrows done and gel put on my nails along with my hair for a grand total of........ £58 bargin!!Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -

I have seen people pay £80+ for colour, cut and blow-dry
If I need to start colouring my hair I'll be tempted to do it myself.0
