average cost of a haircut

ive decided after almost 2 years i need a hair cut last time i went to the local college and got it done for £4 by a nvq level 3 yet i have moved cities since and cant seem to find any colleges that are taking on clients.
most the places i have phoned are quoting around £35-45 for a wet restyle (cutting around 8 inches off) no blowdry.
is this average as it seems tremendously high?
is there any other options apart from mobiles one as i dont have the room for someone to come and cut my hair?

I'm £21 for a wash, cut and blowdry.
I'm afraid I wouldn't pay what you've been quoted. Can you get some recommendations from friends? That way you can find a great hairdresser who doesn't work in an expensive salon.0 -
Some hairdressers need models and they get their hair cut for free, but check what they do as it may be a radical new style. Otherwise, ring around. Groupon often have vouchers for cut and style with blow dry and they are good value. All the best0

In the midlands and I pay £12.00 for dry cut0

ive tried asking at work but most just cut their own or havent had a cut in years. i can now see why if that their average prices0

I have used the same stylist for years. I have a cropped urchin type cut and she charges me £18 for a dry cut. I then go straight home and into the shower, wash my hair and dry and style it myself. I go every five weeks. I do actually think it is quite expensive as I am only in a small market town and it is not a swanky salon. However, better the devil you know and all that...........0

Where do you live? Are you looking for a salon in a city or somewhere quieter? There's not really such a thing as an average price, it depends on many factors.0

luton was looking anywhere within 10 miles
after phoning 19 different ones and loking at prices online of about 30 more found one for £18 around 8 miles away so booked for next week:j though very worried as hairdressers scare me0 -
I had a wet cut on Saturday and she dried my hair (although not a proper styled blow dry) for £14.50.
This was in Bristol, a couple of miles from the centre of town.0 -
£4
Clue is in the user name.0 -
It is definitely worth looking and ringing around, I hate paying expensive prices for a hair cut, its ok if you are going out afterwards but if you have nothing planned will just be watching tv that evening its really not worth the money.
I go to a place where they have a deal £10 for father and son or £14 for mother and daughter. I am a single mum with a son and always have to argue with them to let me have the mother and daughter price for us both! They normally agree to this. It is only dry cuts but still a bargain for both of us. I think they charge £10 for ladies dry cut on its own.0
