Mine used to cost £28 at salon A ,I now go to salon B literally round the corner from salon A and it costs me £13 and and a much better job. It's not as swanky as salon A but why should I pay for their swankiness.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

I pay £5.95 at 'Italian Tonys' in Northend Road, Fulham. It's like going back in time. He still smokes a cigar whilst cutting my hair, which I'm sure is illegal. Nevertheless, it saves me a fair few quid!0

I needed a haircut and got prices from local salons. Too pricey. I contacted the local college ... too pricey. Then I kept an eye out for local salons with a "models wanted" sign in the window - and found one, in a 'posh area' that'd do what I want, with £8 on top for a trim.
Maybe the posh areas have less people willing to go in for a cheapo "models session", which is why I got lucky.0 -
keep an eye out on your way to work etc for salons which might have junior stylists - one near me has a board outside at the moment offering cut & blowdry for £10 with their junior stylist. I'm not near Bristol though.0

I go to a back-street "old ladies" type salon. I pay £14 for a dry cut (I'm not paying someone a tenner to wash my hair!) and I've been seeing my stylist ever since she started there fresh from hairdressing college. I've got mid-length, dead straight hair and she does a lovely layered cut for me, I've never had any complaints about her work. And I get a free cup of tea if I want one!
My sister has very long hair and she pays around £35 to have an inch trimmed off at a swanky salon with loud music and lots of young assistants wearing white tunics. Sucker!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
I pay £4 to have a dry cut. My hairdresser comes to the house. I always give her a few £ extra as she does a brill job and can't see how she can make any money charging just £4!!0

I pay £5 for a mobile hairdresser. I will admit it is mates rates because I work with her elsewhere but she only charges about £8 normally anyway. Bless her she has a lot of elderly clients and sometimes does their hoovering and washing up while she is there.
OP try looking for adverts in local shops for mobile hairdressers and you might find something cheaper. Another thing is if you have facebook their may be a group for local businesses that you can look on. Our local village has a bargains board and a businesses board. The good thing is you can usually see comments from people who have used the services offered. Alternatively you could ask for recommendations on a group like that.0 -
Okay - I will admit I pay £30 for a wash, cut and blowdry. But I have tried LOADS of salons in the area both cheap and expensive and the girl I go to now is the only one who seems to do it how I like it and actually listens to what I want. To me it's worth the extra money to have confidence in my hairdresser and it's not like I've not tried the cheaper places to compare them either. It's my one little indulgence and I go every other month.Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

I go to a local small chain of salon's who do a wash, cut and blow dry on a standby basis (book on the day so on a Tuesday you ring and ask for an appointment that day) for £15. They are graduate stylists so not got years of experience but they are more than capable.
Free head massage, drink, biscuits and they'll use products and straighten at the end if you want.
They get the stylists straight out of school and train them in their ways, so there is no conflict with college training etc.
The alternative would be a salon which is totally walk-in only and does the same for £18 (haven't tried them yet).0 -

This seems quite high.
I paid £40 for a Toni & Guy haircut as a one-off. I wouldn't go back, I don't think it was worth the money. I'm still on the lookout for a good hairdresser.
Men are lucky, they usually pay far less than women for haircuts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
