This thread went a little bit of topic....
Glad to know the car is getting sorted out.0 -
No, sorry but my understanding is perfectly ok thanks.
The components which are probably affected here would be those as to be expected to last the lifetime of the car (i.e. NOT wear & tear) as such the SOGA will apply. If the car was only purchased a week ago, it is not for the OP to 'disadvantaged' by the car's previous service history ect. That is the responsibility of the seller as he is deemed to be the 'expert' and would be expected to of inspected the car and ensured it was fit for the purpose and of satisfactory quality prior to selling it.
In this instance, the faults are assumed to be present at the point of sale thus the responsibility of the seller to rectify. However, it is equally the consumer's responsibility to report the fault(s) to the seller in the first instance and then return the car for him to investigate and arrange repairs as necessary.
Actually under Soga the seller must bear necessary costs in performing a remedy. Again you clearly don't understand what you are preaching.
Of course op should be affected by its history, he's buying pre-owned goods for god sake. Based in this logic it should be in as new condition with no wear or defects. You should be embarrassed by this sort of advice.
If you think a clutch and power steering pump are lifetime components then think again.
Nice outcome by the way op - it's nice to hear there are dealers out there who will stand by their products and their customers.0 -

Ha ha! Love it... it isn't a pump, it's an electrical assisted steering system which is purely and simply a motorised steering column which IS designed to last the lifetime of the car. However, there have been issues with the system. And we are not talking about the clutch either, the possible issue is with the duallogic system itself.
As for the rest of your assault, the service history of a used car prior to the it being sold on by a business, is for the business to check and be aware of, not for a potential buyer. SOGA states that the car must be of satisfactory quality and fit for the purpose which means that the trader would be expected to carry our pre-sale checks. He is expected to be knowledgeable about what he is selling.
And while I agree with your last sentence, do you honestly think that this dealer would remedy the situation so easily (given the potential cost to him) if my advice was flawed as you suggest?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. Are you kidding me ?
Of course I am! Someone made a silly criticism of an obvious typo, and I made a lighthearted response. If the joke missed its mark (it would with most people) then I apologise.
Don't leave the forum because of other people's ignorance. Some people can't resist having a dig, but I have found the majority of folk on here to be very helpful and reasonable.
Have a think, and stick around. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
It's amazing how a thread can degenerate into something as trivial as a typo and go off at a tangent away from the issue to hand. Unfortunately (for some reason) there are certain members that relish nothing better than resorting to personal insults and take every opportunity to do so.
Perfect example is the attack on me from a poster stating that I should be 'embarrassed' by the advice I was giving the OP, even though it was perfectly reasonable and accurate. This coming from someone who clearly hadn't bothered to do any research into the subject before attempting to ridicule me. If he had, maybe he would't of ended up with egg on his face by saying that "clutch and power steering pump" are not lifetime components.
Well of course they aren't but the car in question dosn't have 'power steering pump' and the clutch by itself isn't the issue. The components in question are non serviceable and are expected to last the lifetime of the car. Clearly the dealer has acknowledged this and has covered his obligations under the SOGA by agreeing to pay for the work to be done at a main dealer, something he wouldn't do if it wasn't his responsibility.
That suggests that my understanding of the situation was correct rather than flawed.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

There is a known logical equasion, regarding web posts; it has a name I believe; that any post made will result in chaos within 7 posts, regardless of topic. I'm sorry for pointing out the ect/etc error, but surely it's best to stay on topic, rather than start slagging off people? I apologise for my error, but wish to point out 'Tilt' using an an apostrophy incorrectly, in the word, 'wouldn't'....
The test is; make something up; post it in a forum of your choice; and within 7 posts people argue regarding the made up issue....That's life! Try it! Forums not happy...true!0 -
Sensible and reasonable post Ratboy. But my 'frustration' wasn't actually aimed at you. It was to someone who was trying to ridicule me when they, themselves hadn't got a clue what they were talking about.
I'm all for having a debate and will except criticism when it's presented in a respectful and reasonable manner, but when I start getting personal attacks when I'm giving reasonable opinion and advice, then I ain't going to accept it.
But thanks for the english (sorry, i meant English) lesson anyway!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
