sold car that had 2 serious faults now had a bump

The car was ok in manual mode but the fault started getting worse quickly into have no gears and not able to select anything untill the car was turned off and on again. He used to be in the police as a traffic officer so he is a great driver with more letters after his name for driving that i will ever have. (he is still working with the police)
As for the aa rac ect it was his call i would have phoned the aa to dump it back the minute it started playing silly beggers but that wasnt my call. Iam only trying to see what they can do to the the gearbox fixed as they want to keep the car (i wouldnt but again its not my call)
Also i must point out this car wasnt for him to drive it was going to be a family runabout so his wife and daughter could use it. As he is provided with a car from work now.0 -
The selling dealer needs to book it in at a Fiat dealer to run an ECU test. One issue could be that it has had a duff battery or alternator in the past. This can 'confuse' the ECU and lead to these problems.
Unless the 'bump' was significant (i.e. damage to the engine bay), to suggest that was the cause is taking the p155.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
yup i am with you on that one i think most of this mess is his own doing he should have had the aa place it back t the dealer the first night things started to go wrong but i thought i would get other peoples thoughts on the matter.
To make it clear he is a great driver but in this case lack of judgment i think may be his downfall and may cost him alot more i think the garage is just going to wash there hands of it he has full no claims and i said to him about an hour ago just to claim it on the insurance and put this sorry episode behind you and be more careful and more empathetic to the people you stop for similar offences and i think he has dodged a bullet on this one.
As people have said he should have reported the fault straight away and then the dealer would be at fault if it happens again but he has left himself open to the its not our problem excuse from the dealer. Also had a dig at him re if he stopped somebody that was driving a car that had faults like this this one. His answer confirmed it all so i think he will be dropping this if the dealer doesnt want to fix it .0 -
Under the SOGA, the seller is obliged to get it fixed, especially if it was only bought last Thursday.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Interesting it was having its sump replaced. Wonder if it had previously been up and over a kerb given the steering issue...?
Might be worth poking a bit more into that. If it has previous accident damage that might help refute their claims about your family causing the issue. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Started and lurched forward? I wonder if he is not used to driving an auto and failed to stand on the brake when putting it into gear?
Faulty lever switch and started it in gear?
You should always check its in Park or Neutral when starting. And always stand on the brakes either way.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

they have 2 other cvt autos so nope they are well used to driving autos. Like i said before he drives top of the range cars at over 100 mph all day long with his job (fire arms officer) getting to blue light calls and has NEVER had any bump at all since he started driving at 17 so he and she are well used to automatics.
The lurch is not a creep like cvt autos (goggle it) this type of automatic doesn't creep at all it was faulty eg now found out that the sensor was faulty that controlled the clutch so it lurched forward uncontrollably as the clutch fully engaged when it should have lightly engaged.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if your going to buy an automatic stay well clear of these manual clutchless pedal auto they are so unreliable and when they do go wrong the ecu which is also at fault with the gearbox will need replaced at over £1200 over half the cost of the car. Stay well clear if you like your wallet. Our neighbour (well is say neighbour there the closest at over 2 miles away) live in the country has bought a fiat 500 this year jan and now the same gearbox has failed too.forgotmyname wrote: »Started and lurched forward? You could ask a few questions on here to see if anyone has experienced the same problem.

I personally havn't driven a car with this type of 'auto' box, but I understand that it has different characteristics to that of a traditional automatic which may be 'strange' to those people who have only driven a normal automatic. This (apparently) has given an impression that there is a problem with the cars fitted with this dualogic gear box when it isn't the normally the case. However, if your neighbour's 500 has suffered a 'failed' gearbox, it will more than likely be covered under warranty. The problem then maybe with the dealer so it may be an idea for him/her to go direct to Fiat by using the 'contact' page here; http://www.fiat.co.uk/Showroom/#showroom/home
Fiat UK customer service are generally very good.
As for your issues, my previous advice stands.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
