Irish Rose, John Lewis had more than 10 in stock about 10 mins ago.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0

No, they're not being discontinued. Or at least this model might be I s'pose but it's one of their most successful ones so I can't see why.
And they have several other Nook models too, all using the same e-book format. E-readers are getting extremely popular and the Nooks review very well so there's no reason to be suspicious of one, as far as I can tell. There should be no problem with buying books for them.
The low price is just a promotional price linked to the Get Reading campaign (http://uk.nook.com/event/get-reading).
Edited to add - but there's no 'need' to buy one!
Also, there are thousands of free ebooks downloadable over the net in epub format. Even if they are another format, you can convert them easily using calibre (free software) as mentioned by others.0 -
Thanks for the John Lewis tip, i tried to order twice through nook directly and both times got an email later to say my card was declined (used 2 different cards). Order went through fine with John Lewis.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0

Thank you! Impatient person that I am, I've cancelled my order with nook and have ordered from John Lewis to collect tomorrow
I did check JL before ordering last night but they hadn't updated the prices yet, glad they caught up before my order from nook shipped.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I presume they're expecting a consequent jump in sales of ebooks after this.
It reminds me of when video recorders/CDs/DVDs came out - the kit for those dropped in price dramatically too.The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
There also seem to have been massive demands on many of the sites selling these things, and as a result, many went down or were unable to cope with the demand. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0

Tried to order direct through Nook, got an email saying my card was declined (which sounds odd, it's never been declined before, and probably an excuse for lack of stock?). Not at all impressed with Nook customer care ('live chat'? Ha!) so will not be following up with Nook.
Have ordered one from John Lewis.:)'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Have just ordered mine directly from Nook
no problems (did forget TCB, though).

The John Lewis ones have a two-year warranty I gather. Not bad IMO.The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0
