I got Sky+ installed for free for £49 yesterday after following the advice from a member of another forum. I was advised to email Sky and not call the customer service department.
The OP said that the first email will always come back with a computer generated standard reply and to email again asking for a personal response addressing the points made in the complaint of the first email. After this you should get a phone call from the Cancellations Department and if you explain what the problem is and ask them to answer your questions with regard to your complaint you are usually offered Sky+ for £49.
I made up my email templates in advance and gave it a try. Email 1 was sent on Tuesday and I received a response on Wednesday. Email 2 was sent on Thursday and I received the phonecall on Thursday night. They came yesterday (1 week later) and I'm one very happy camper. Plus I'll own the equipment after 12 months as opposed to with Virgin where it'll never be mine.
In my emails of complaint, I asked Sky to address the issue of what they do to 'retain' customers who threaten to cancel, (ie £49 for Sky+) and why they don't employ good practices in keeping existing customers happy. I didn't ask for the offer or mention any promotions that are available, and more importantly, I clearly stated that I had no intention of wanting to cancel - yet... (Those who have done that seemed to get nowhere)
I can't say it'll work for everyone, and some people have managed to get the same thing by phoning Sky and threatening to cancel, but this has worked for quite a few people including myself, and we didn't have to pick the phone up once!!!! :T
I tried canceling a number of moths ago to get a Sky+ and got nowhere. Could you PM me a copy of the email you sent to Sky.
Thanks in advance

Our sky box has been playing up for some time now, so finally decided to phone sky to cancel, have to say my children were not very happy. Told them we wanted to cancel as our box was getting very tempremental and couldn't afford a new one at the moment. They asked if we would consider upgrading to sky+, my husband told them " not if it meant spending anymore money" we pay them £38 a month now. They said, "no it wouldn't cost us anything as we had been good customers and had never had a call out" my husband made him repeat it free brand new sky+ box and free installation.:rotfl: It was installed 3 days later, had it 2 days now and its brill and best of all my children are still talking to me :j :j0

Following on from my post above, just phoned sky and it seems the deal we all signed up to in June for £15 has indeed been increased by £2. So, incase anyone else thought they had missed something along the way, as I did, it seems we did!DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0
