I tried to cancel but was told if I do so Id have to pay £10 month for sky plus until my 12mths are up!? Why, when they no longer charge for sky + subscription?

All that changed was they used to only waiver the £10 fee for the subscribers with the premium channels, now its for any subscriber regardless of package...

in a nutshell, if your not a subscriber you have a £10 per month bill

I phoned SKY last night and customer services would not give the SKY+ box for nothing unless i went through to cancellations, so i phoned them and said that virgin media were touting for business and cancellations said they would supply a pvr2 box for free with free installation and install thursday week.i wonder if i could of got a PVR3 box if i had persisted?

Yes and even if you cancel the WHOLE Package you still have to pay the £10 if you are within the contract. After you have been with them 12 months you can cancel but will STILL have to pay the £10 in order to use the SKY+ recording feature.. IIf you dont want to use any of the sky+ facilities then you will get it for nothing but you would be as well using a non sky+ box. You wont be able to pause, rewind, record or use planner functions.

This is what I asked for

  • I called standard cust svs this evening to say I would cancel unless Sky could offer a deal on SKY +. Digibox is on the blink, not currently under contract but wanted to upgrade to SKY Plus for recording.

Stated that I was prepared to cancel subs to go with Freeview channels only (currently only have £18 package) and buy Freeview HD recorder. Eventually was offered latest PVR3 Sky Plus receiver for £35 with free installation. Decided that although not free, this is still much cheaper than buying equivalent kit.

I was also advised that although I was tied into 12 mths for the recording facility, I was not obliged to continue with the £18 subscription - but would then have to continue paying £10/mth.
