The last adult who did that to me (it was in the pictures not on a flight) got one warning to stop. He chose not to, and I retaliated - he was quiet after that. I am aware that you would not get away with htat on a flight. The seat leaning too far back - I have had, I ask nicely, then I lean my elbows on it, or shoogle it with my knees till they get fed up.

When you say retaliated what did you do? Did you assault the man?

No, I defended myself from his continuing assaults by restraining him and removing him from the cinema.

That sounds a bit like you assaulted him.

And all he was doing was kicking the back of your chair?

Can't believe this thread has made it to 20 pages! Or is that fairly normally for a heated debate on MSE?

Yep. Many threads in Discussion Time are at least this long, if not longer ;)

It's interesting when a thread like this just runs and runs.

You see it pop up when the OP is made and expect just a couple of replies and yet it is still going strong days later.

    Sounds like you
Don't know how to read what was posted
    1. Don't know the definition of assault
    2. Think someone continuing to cause you pain by kicking the seat you are relaxing in after being told to stop is "just kicking the back of your chair".
    3. Think you are going to get some sort of rise out of me.
    4. Are on to plums.

Well putting aside your obvious temper issues.

I would say that physically restraining someone and then removing them from a cinema is assault.

I do not believe that "kicking the back of your seat" justifies a physical retaliation.....

I've also no idea what point 5 is!

As I said - you obviously do not know the definition of assault, so you would be wrong.

continuing to do so after being told to stop did, what would you do? I would have moved but it was allocated seating.

It means you are not going to get what you want!

But your link seems to indicate it was assault? Was this not "personal violence?"

I would probably have complained to the manager and requested a new seat.

I don't believe you should lay your hands on another person unless there is no other option. I believe in this case there were other options.

    Obviously you favour physical confrontation!
