Indeed it will and why not.If she can make a living out of showing people how to make the most of what they have ,how ever little, it is then jolly good luck to her.I have ordered and bought the book from A$$$on for £9.95 inc.postage and received an email this morning to say it has been dispatched I look forward to reading it.I have been reading her blog for some time and there are some decent recipes on there that definitely won't break the bank, if fact I have tried some of them.I am happy to pay under a tenner for a sensible book that doesn't give recipes that are just a bit daft to be honest.A lot of the 'celebrity' cooks bring out books that are so far removed from real life I wonder if they have ever been in a bad place where cash is very tight at all.So I wish her nothing but the best of luck with the venture and if it makes her a decent living then I see nothing wrong in that .She is provinding for herself and her 'small boy' by her own efforts, more power to her elbow I say

Just realised that tomorrow is the day that the book is launched. Ordered it a while ago. I'm really looking forward to getting it. Anybody else pre-ordered? I'm wondering what new recipes will be in it compared to her blog. Have found some fab recipes on the blog already so have high expectations.

Know it's not particularly `old style` to buy the book but I'm a real sucker for a cookery book I must admit!

Some people already have it I believe, a number of people on her facebook page have said that they have a copy, its also on the shelves at waterstones I believe.

Good luck to her in whatever she does but personally I think theres only so much mileage you can get from, young person is skint, uses a food bank, people read her blog and she gets offered a book deal.

Im aware she had the blog well before the book deal but I think its been Jack Monroe overkill lately and lots of people are getting on with campaigning and blogging cheap recipes without all this attention on them.

I was a bit late to the party and only discovered Jack's blog a few months ago(thanks to this board of course!). What are the other blogs you're thinking of Pauline - I'm always on the lookout for new ideas.

Personally, I've enjoyed using Jack's recipes. I like the way she uses everyday ingredients and will often suggest substitutes for particular ingredient.

I've reserved her book from the library.I've already got far too many cookery books on my shelf!

  • Good on her. I don't usually buy cookbooks but I might get this one. I like her energy and enthusiasm, and when I saw her on TV recently I liked that she said she would continue to make the most of food and live sensibly despite her success now affording her a higher standard of living.

Sadly, I feel she's facing a lot of the green eyed monster at the moment. Although there are many people who have been living in similar dire straits, and surviving, clearly there is something personable about Jack that has caught the public's attention. I hope she continues to speak out and be a voice for those caught in the poverty trap.

    My copy has just arrived.
  • Had pre ordered mine online, so it arrived today. Can't wait to try out some recipes. Also been gifted The Hummingbird Bakery recipe book so looking forward to trying out some of the tasty cake recipes in there.

Thanks Pauline. Thrifty Lesley looks good, I'll look forward to reading that. Weezl's cheap family recipes menu plan is one of my favourites - I remember seeing it take shape right here on Old Style! My family still refer to her as the 50p lady :)
