When we bought our house it was as if the previous owners had watched Changing Rooms and decided to do every room in a totally different, very bold colour. House was in great location and had been on market for some time. The only issue we could see with the house was the colour scheme that was putting people off.
Over time we painted but it was a good talking point in the meantime.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Reminds me of our next door neighbours. They used to live next door but one on the other side to me. Decided to move away from the area, regretted it and moved back the next time a house came up for sale in our street. Unfortunately it had a very garish 70s paint scheme which they had to sort out, but it was the price they had to pay to get back here.Make £2025 in 2025

IMHO 'standing out from the crowd' does not entail covering up the 'dated parquet flooring' with cheap neutral colour carpets
The lovely parquet flooring is (again IMHO) very desirable and if restored would be a lovely feature in a house which (apologies for being blunt Dan) doesn't have that many - with the exception of the garden, size and quietness of the location........
Everyone has an opinion on floor finishes of course, mine is that parquet is dated and old fashioned and has been for years. To appeal to the widest audience you need to make it as neutral as possible. So many people can't see past floor finishes and decoration. That's not to say it's a horrible floor because I don't think it is, but it will divide opinion and when you're selling a house you want as many people leaving as possible with a positive view on it as you can get. Neutral colours will make it look lighter. If it looks lighter it'll appeal more IMO. I can think of maybe 2 ocassions where we've laid parquet flooring in the 13 years we've been renovating properties so it's far from popular, although clearly it has fans.
What I say 'stand out from the crowd' I only meant that the property should be brought 'up-to-date' so that people will view it as a property they can move straight into and not have to do anything with for at least a few years. Leave the parquet down by all means (it can be a pain to take up anyway) and if the new owners like it they can always strip the carpets back up. The only thing you're interested in is selling it, not what the new owners do to it afterwards.
Maximise your potential buyers and it'll sell I'm sure. A blank canvas will help people to see how they could make the most of it.
Good luck!0 -

Sorry I don't have any advice for you but just wanted to say that I love the parquet!! If the dark rug was changed for a cream one the lounge would lovely I think. Parquet flooring is wonderful, it would be a shame to cover it up.0
