I came across the site from a link on Channel 5's Gadget Show website.

Why would they link you to a dodgy site?
Google gives you answers use it.........

Do you have a link on the Gadget Show site?

There is another company in the UK with a similar name.

  • If you have payment protection like credit card charge back or paypal then its OK. i see their products are imported so hence the low shipping. I'd go for it if i was looking for a phone, I have bought from dodgy looking places but only poor things i find is customer services/after sales and longer timescales, but always got the products i ordered.

Best way to know is to call their telephone number to speak with them, say just to enquire about stock or something, you get a better picture.

The thing i mostly go off, if i look on google for reviews if none then pay with protection, if some reviews then obviously you'll know what to do.

I wouldn't take that as the Gadget show endorsing Discount Emporium Ltd. The Gadget show person might have just googled round for the cheapest price and never tried to actually use Discount Emporium Ltd.

It is clear that they have good prices, but it isn't clear from the website whether the customers will get what they ordered.

I would agree, some lazy researcher just googled prices and added the cheapest price showing to the page, (it isn't even the cheapest if it actually arrives via Chinese container), VAT should be added to comply with UK law.

There may be import duty as well as VAT if it is coming from somewhere like China.

The website says it is coming from an unspecified EU destination, but that does not seem consistent with what they say about it about arriving by sea in a container and being held up to clear customs - this wouldn't happen with an import from an EU country.

A combination of import duty and VAT could add as much as 40% (or possibly even more) to the price of the phone.

There seem to be lots of very unhappy customers on Hotdeals.

Anyone considering ordering from them should read the Hotdeals thread first.

It'a a card payment apparently, hence chargeback protection.

Looks like that was wrong as well, no card protection as payments go via Skrill according to the HUKD thread.
