What I don't get is how some people have been told 2-3 weeks or given a date for a response and others are just told 8 weeks (like myself). I've had a look through the thread and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the amount that's being reclaimed and it's the same department that's dealing with it so it can't be geographical. I just don't get it.

Ring them up on the number shown on the refusal letter and tell them you are unhappy at their decision and ask them to review it.

Had an offer today from Halifax offering £2957 following an initial rejection letter. Total claim was for £5994 plus £1150.93 interest. just waiting a call back from HBOS as I'm not accepting this - will see how I get on and post result.

Moral of my experiences - NEVER GIVE UP, KEEP ON THEIR BACKS

How long did it take them to get back to you after your rejection letter?

    Hi
Rejection letter was dated 28 May which I received 31 May. I phoned Halifax 31 May to reject their findings and request a review. I also reminded Halifax they had until 14 June to respond and NOT 8 weeks from 31 May (14 June was 8 weeks from the day they received my original claim).

I received a letter today dated 11 June offering derisory £2957. Spoke to a K**** on 0151 224 7575 as detailed on that letter.

K**** was courteous as was I. I said I was happy to refer the case to FOS or go via the MCOL route as Halifax's offer not reasonable. Kevin offered £4000 immediately and we ended up agreeing £5,500 or 92% of the charges applied to the account.

Could I have pushed for more (i.e. interest)? Maybe, however, I was doing this on behalf of my dad following the death of my mum in Feb. and mum and dad really hadn't run their account well for a long time, so I felt the settlement is fair and reasonable.

This makes such a difference to my dad - but would happily give it all back for just 1 more hour with mum.

Have had success with GE Money (£430), MBNA (£530) & LTSB (£186) so dad has now had £6,646 returned to him. This means he's financially stable for the future.

PATIENCE, RESILIENCE AND COURTESY -definately worked for me. Thanks to this website for the life-changing difference it's made for so many people. :T :T :T

Hi - Just had my rejection letter saying:-

    Outcome

I am sorry to advise you I am declining your complaint. I hope I have explained the reasons for my decision.....................

Is this the standard letter you have all received prior to asking for a review?

I have not sent a request for charges, as I was told I would not need to as they have a list of them. Should I send this anyway????

    Hi K1mmie

Yes, standard letter - right down to the exact wording. See my posts above.
Call the number on the letter and reject their findings - ask them to review the case.

You really do need to know how much charges were - otherwise how will you know how much to reclaim and compare it to Halifax's offer?

Keep going, don't give up, be firm but polite - my dad's £6,646 better off as a result.
