iPad ban in local pub, legal?

Yes, or using it for more than just general web browsing... They may not appreciate people sitting there for hours streaming films and TV shows and not spending a lot of money... Most companies provide free wifi to allow customers to check e-mails, web browse etc, not perform bandwidth intense tasks.0

I went for lunch with DS and OH in a pub the other week, and thought we had sat in a no talking corner. All the couples around us seemed to be sat in silence and on their ipads or tablets playing games etc...
We couldn't help feeling how very sad it was, and we have vowed never to become one of those couples!
We were then in a greasy-spoon-esque cafe in Newquay having brunch, and a group 20 somethings came in. We were expecting rowdyness, but instead they were almost silent, all on their phones. Again - how sad!
So perhaps the pub just wants to encourage people to communicate in the good old fashion way?
Yes, it's legal.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
probably posted on a pub quiz night0

It's why I had to unfortunately turn off my free WiFi, people coming in and buying a £1 cup of tea and sitting for hours on their laptops. Sometimes there would be a few of them with some not even buying anything. It's the few who abuse it that ruin it for everyone else.0

Maybe give 1 hour wifi with the tea, then if they want longer they spend more money on your core services?0 -
As 'ipad users' are not a protected group in anti-discriminations laws yes this is legal. They can refuse to serve anyone, for any reason, provided it isn't illegal discrimination. I'd love to know what pub company this is because I think it's brilliant and I'd happily go thereCommon sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

Can't you just leave it in your bag then if you get called and need to use it leave the pub and use it outside? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
