Have to admit my wedding was very low cost as well, we only gave people 15 days notice we were getting married ( cue the " are you pregnant questions")
A friend made the cake as her present, another lent us his motor as a present, another took photos and video ( anything but professional but they were fun ) our wedding was at 12 then into a nearby hotel for a meal £10 a head 40 people ( in laws paid it as I only wanted us two and two witnesses she wanted more I said you can have as many as you like of u pay ... So she did ... I was lucky if I knew quarter of people at the wedding )
My wedding dress was £20 I borrowed the veil etc and my shoes were £10 and gloves £20 so wedding outfit cost £50 ... The wedding wa finished by 4pm where mr el and I went out to a local restaurant and had a lovely Chinese, then went to the pictures to watch turner and hooch before heading back to the caravan which we lived in at the time ( lived in a caravan for 2.5 years )
For me what was important was mr el and I vowing to be together, we're still together 23.5 years later ... Although neither of us wears our rings and haven't done for over 20 years
Your day will be perfect, and I love the way you are realistically approaching it, your taking care of the important stuff0 -
just a thought instead of the "linen" either use white sheets, or get the disposable tableclothes - the BBq / summer season there be a gd range at £1 shops.
I love the wedding tales - I had 3 marriage proposals, 1 torque ring as an iou till I get the engagement ring (never materalised), 1 daughter, and no wedding!! xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Hail Pippi and the Stripey Gang :hello:
Greying swooshes in after one final fling picnic-ing in walled gardens............back to reality now
Pippi with the 'linen' question, are you meaning table coverings and napkins, or just tablecloths or just napkins? I have to say, I totally respect your 'non-disposable' stance. But wonder if there may be mileage in having some disposable napkins to hand - every 'do' I've ever attended, someone has managed to spill beverages down themselves or other people (memorably DP spilt tea over someone at a wake *roll eye smiley*) and the first thing to hand is usually the paper napkins. Also, they are useful for wrapping pieces of cake (not sure you are having one) or 'doggy bag plates' (which I am sure you will encourage your guests to take away =zero waste).
If you need tablecloths, then I like mum2one's idea of sheets - it's what we've always used. How many would you need? I often see good quality (heavy count) cotton sheets in CS - normally for a pound or two (sometimes for more if the CS has got nasturtiums of grandeur). If the stripey gang all keep a look out, we could get your tables covered for a few pounds - but then you might have a colour scheme - the sheets I'm talking about normally come in white???? However, the downside is that you'd have to *iron* these yourselfMaybe an incentive to hire???? :rotfl:
Has the Slow Food group got any resources you could borrow???
Glasses - I know it may not be suitable for your event, but often Mr T's and Mr S hire glasses for free. Downside is I think you have to buy drinks from them (I've never done it, so don't really know what I'm talking about). Of course, then you'd still have to find teacups and plates - so maybe the venue hire is the best??? Or have you a S.W.R.I - do they have cups/saucers/glasses/plates - could you loan them and would the venue be cool with you using them on their premises???
Are there going to be any kilts worn?????
As for vehicles, I'm afraid I had run away with the idea that you'd be transported aloft a trailer (florally bedecked - natch), towed by the BRB, expertly driven by your DS.......... nope? you're not keen on that idea???? Or is this where Darwin takes centre stage?? We happened upon a country wedding last year and the wedding cars were a VW T2 split screen camper and a stretched mini limo.
And finally......... I'm sure you've flowers/bouquets well under control, but don't forget Zara Phillips interesting use of Eryngiums.....

Just thought! I'd probably go for a bit of bling ... I just remembered a day's shopping I had in, um, I think it was Southall ... its a huge Asian community, mostly Hindi, which means its a colourful, bouncy, vibrant approach - now, the jewellery is serious, solid, good quality gold, and lots of it, but the clothes are sometimes a bit different - neon pinks, blues and reds, with matching shoes - the material can be really low cost, and the shoes, covered in the same material, were £5 then - so call it £10 now, and you'd be near the mark. They looked splendiferous! They won't work in wellie land of course :rotfl: but at some stage of your honeymoon, I bet you could use them2023: the year I get to buy a car0

How about the colourful material as tablecloths & napkins - the asian area in our nearest town has really nice printed cotton cloth - and really cheap! - seems if you buy the whole bolt, they even give you a discount!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Some lovely ideas and stories here - just fabulous to read!
On the subject of the photos is where I will chip in (and this is generally for anyone else planning a wedding, not just for Pippi). The idea of getting friends and family to do pics is a lovely one, but in 20 years time you WILL be disappointed with the results I'm afraid, it honestly is worth asking a professional if you want ANY sort of formal, posed shots as they are absolutely the experts when it comes to getting groups of people together in a quick and timely fashion and overcoming problems like rain, high winds etc. Of course, if you don't want any kind of formal shots then that's great, and it might well be that you have a cheery photographically minded chum who will offer to do you a photobook full of candid informal shots as a wedding pressie....
If it were me I'd go for the hire on the linen as well - the other option I guess is to get together an absolute mass of table cloths & napkins that you will never use again but still have to launder before sending to the charity shop, and honestly, the day after you get hitched, will you REALLY be wanting to spend several hours feeding tablecloths with all manner of stuff spilt on them through your washing machine?
We didn't do a formal seating arrangement for our sit-down meal - left the food as a buffet arrangement and apart from a traditional top table we let people sit wherever, which worked really well. The only reason for doing this was that neither of us could be bothered to sit and do any sort of seating plan! :rotfl:🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
