my bf is very good at disaplining his son. he says he has no qualms being the policeman. But when he gets a text message saying the kids wont sit on the sofa to eat their tea he cant really sort that out. all he asked is why arent they sat at the table and the reply is "the washing is on there"

Its difficult trying to discapline part time.

She sounds like she needs a bit of help really, and her new boyfriend doesn't sound like he's helping enough.

Is there a surestart (children's centre) nearby? afaik a depressed mother can ask for help and support from the family support workers there, and social services don't have to be involved. They might see the bruises on the little boy as cause for concern though, so be prepared for SS to be called if needs be.

I'm going to go against the grain he and say that your OH needs to get his son away from this damaging and abusive environment. The girl has two parents who are responsible for her - they need to be, as your OH needs to be responsible for his son.
