MSE has been hit by a spammer; in trying to halt them, they put the spammer's text into the spam filter, which means loads of words are !!!n!v!g!y all over MSE.

However the proposal is not fair to me as she would be able to live in a location of her choice mortgage free and have £1150 coming in and a new car, even if she doesn't get a job. Nice position think we'd all like that find a part time job somewhere to top it up a bit. My problem with that proposal is I'd be paying out a big mortgage to match the same level of housing and have left the about the same as I'm paying her. Difference is if I lost my job, took early retirement etc I'd still have a mortgage to pay and nothing coming in. So with her proposal I'd happily swop places...

My suggestion would be:
1.Price up a three bedroom house in your current location? That should be her aim. If she wants to move elsewhere, she funds it not you. After all if she was still living with you, she would be local.
The quid pro quo for the extra capital to her beyond the half share is that they allow you to deduct your mortgage payments from your salary before divvying up.
As I said before her current arrangments assume she is entitled to a permanent support.
There is a BIG difference between being a library assistant and a librarian but she is NOT going to get any permanent or long term job until she has some recent employment history under her belt and she has avoided sorting that out (agency work being the best as you can put Nov 14 to date on the next job application even if you have only done two weeks). If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I think that you are doing the right thing by refusing to discuss this further with the solicitors and waiting for the court case.
Going against the majority, I would carry on making the same maintenance payments until then. It's only a few months as another poster pointed out and I am concerned that if you cut the payments now when you are so close to the court case then all hell will break loose. She is apparently quite happy to continue on in limbo and I think she will take any opportunity to derail things.
I agree with the other poster (sorry didn't note who!) who said that everyone needs to forget this inheritance thing. Until that money is in her hands it's not guaranteed hers.
Will you get to meet with your barrister before the court case to go through things, or does he just read the papers that you've prepared Jack?0 -

I'm sorry but I don't agree. Firstly, what else can she do? She's hardly considering Jack or his future in her demands, or being reasonable in the slightest. Jack has been nice enough for long enough and she has done nothing to improve her situation.
Secondly, if the judge sees jack paying the higher amount of maintenance, he/she may see this is a benchmark, which Jack does NOT want.0
