Try tomato ketchup!
I know is sounds silly but squirt the ketchup on the burnt bits & leave it for a cpl of hours & then just wash off

Hello, I am currently trying to clean a burnt pan (and I mean burnt - the type that nearly burned my kitchen down burnt  ). Its stainless steel, very good quality pan which I would like to rescue if possible.
I have tried, stardrops with plastic scrubber, cream cleaner, and finally brillo pads. Some of it has shifted around the sides but the blackness on the bottom will not shift. Also I have a lot of soot to clean off the cooker hood and walls??? Haven't tried anything on that yet.:o
I'm sure OS regulars will know of something I can try - I don't mind popping to the shops to buy stuff. Thanks0 -
My first port of call would be soda crystals. They worked brill when renovating equipment in the equipment loft I took over at the Scout HQ.
Soak the pan for ages in a fairly strong solution, and wash the walls with it as wellIt matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

Soak it in a solution with washing powder added. That tip has never failed me yet......good luck!We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

I soak mine for 15 mins with cola then bring it to the boil, it lifts the burnt stuff right off. Makes you wonder what it does to your insides!I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Thanks guys, have soda crystals in so have put the pan to soak, and will wash the wall down in the same way. Will try the cola trick if this doesn't work. Never heard of that one but will be interesting to try. Glad to know I'm not the first to turn their pans to cinders!0

You could also try boiling heavily salted water in it.0

Hi rosie-marie,
You definitely aren't the first and you won't be the last. There are more ideas on this older thread: burnt pan...what to use?
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I find bringing cola to the boil in a burnt pan usually does the job.0

The soad crystals really worked! Boiled the solution up for a few minutes and it started to come away using the brillo pad. Still a few small stubborn areas so will get some cola later (I suppose its the acid in the cola?) to shift the rest. Gosh, I was about to put the pan in the bin last night. Also soda crystal solution took the soot off the hood and walls a dream, no scrubbing needed.
....And husband has banned me from cooking, so good news all round!0
