I did that once and filled the saucepan with water and stuck it outside as it smelled bad. I forgot about it for prob a week or more and when I came back to it, the burned stuff just wiped off with a soft sponge !

I think the mould worked its way through the burned stuff or something - it was a bit grim but it did the job !
  • lol I do this all the time!!

I usually boil the kettle, allow to soak with some washing up liquid for about an hour then anything burnt tends to come off fairly easily.

  • Cook rhubarb in it.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Hi there, spent yesterday making a double batch of Delia's damson chutney, but burnt the botton of my aluminium preserving pan. I boiled up some water with an Arial tablet in to try & shift it, but it still has a thick carbon layer at the bottom. Can anyone give me some more ideas please?

Try leaving the Ariel solution in the pan to soak for at least 24 hours. Then if there is still some carbon in the pan replace the solution.
  • Try boiling coke in it for ten mins and then leaving it to cool, repeat if necessary - works a treat with my le creuset pans, and much cheaper than their cleaning stuff!

Also you can boil up a strong salt solution and then leave it to cool - this one isn't for enamal pans though.
  • I am used to burning pans! I put in some vinegar and water and boil it and then let it cool and scrape it off. Any vinegar will do. It works for me everytime and trust me I have had some burnt pans in my time. Sometimes I have to do it a couple of times so I hope it works for you. Good luck.
  • there was a thread on here about a month ago-exactly the same culpruit-delias chutney!!! i'm no good at link things, but if you try searching you may find it-not sure if it was under "maslin pan"-(off to have a look!)
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most..... ;)

Washing soda and soak it overnight and it should shine again- can boil this up and also use a plastic washing up brush to brush off the carbon
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
