To get the burnt on crud off with the boiling salt water, the offending item has to be immersed in the water and boiling for a few minutes. Might be a little bit difficult with something as big as grillpan trays and oven racks.
I'm gonna give Troo's tip a whirl on my manky revolting oven shelves :T0 -

I think I'd use a credit card to clean it if it was mine

Hi there,
I know I'm going to sound like an idiot but I really hope someone has a good idea to solve my silly problem. I have accidently really burnt a good quality stainless steel saucepan and nothing seems to get the black marks off. Any ideas most gratefully received! Thank you :-)0 -
I did this last week, put some vinigar in it and boil with a little water.... it just lifted it off mine and is now good as new0

Pour some water in , add some bio washing powder and leave overnight ....can guarantee the burnt bits will float off....did for meWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

if you've got some coca cola left over, try soaking the pan in that. i'm sure that's what i used once when i burnt a pan ages ago :rolleyes:0

Last time I did it I got it clean by scouring with salt and a little water and then used bicarb to get rid of the burnt smell.0

Ohh, I did the same thing a few weeks ago! Just wanted to add a word of warning... I let it steep then decided the way forward was to boil water with washing up liquid in it. I forgot all about putting the pot on & was wondering what the horrible burning soapy smell was for a good wee while ... till I remembered!
I made it 10 times worse!! :rotfl:
I eventually got it clean again, but since have heard salt is best, as it works as a natural abrasive. Good luck!0
