Couldn't find an appropriate section...
In short the block of flats next to my house have tons of parking spaces and put a not on visitors cars if they dare park there.
I admit the visitors may be in the wrong as there a clear "residential parking" signs, but what do they mean.
Anyone can buy a sign on ebay and alike and put it up.
There are no lines nor council notices or restrictions
all opinions welcome

What does the note say? If it just says please don't park here then that sounds fair enough! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

How dare they request you park elsewhere when it's clearly marked RESIDENTS ONLY.0

Always one....
I think they have made and put up their own sign and it is public property...
Theres 6 flats and 32 spaces none marked out or allocated, no controlled parking messages just a couple of shop bought signs.0 -
I remember living in a flat with a residents only parking, we had a gate and everyone had keys to the gate but more often it would be left open. People used to park there all the time that didn't live there as the shopping centre was across the road so it was free parking for people that didn't want to pay to park in the centre.
Used to be fun to lock the gate from time to time, after all if they lived there they have the key to unlock the gate. But in my defence it used to be annoying when there was no where to park because people couldn't be bothered paying to park elsewhere.0 -
I would just like to know where the law lies. As a shiny "you cant park here" type sticker, what does it mean....0

There is no law that says you can't put a sticker up.
It sounds like if you do park there they stick a note on your car which is again not illegal.
If they clamp you, fine you or damage your car then that is illegal. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I agree a polite note isn't unlawful unless offensive as that would fall under section4 of public order act, etc.
I further agree regarding them not now being able to clamp etc.
My question still remains what's the law regarding these spaces....0 -
Putting up notices without prior authorisation may be classed as fly-posting.
Putting notices on "offending vehicles" may be a criminal act (if they are sticky notices that damage paintwork, for example).
But to respond to your question - there's no one-size-fits-all answer, as these things are usually subject to local legislation/council rules.0 -

this is s specific section for parking, fines, tickets etc. I would post there to get a better answer0 -
I dont know about the laws or regulations for these flats but I can comment on my own.
I live in a flat with residential parking, in this case I have a specific space which is clearly marked on on the deed to my flat therefore it is my private property. I also can tell you it is soooo annoying when someone decides to park there!0
