Download the head lease from land registry, that will show if the parking area is on the same title as the block itself.

You may be able to view/download the title plan for the Head Lease online but if you need a copy of the actual lease itself then you would need to apply by post

Our online FAQs explains how to use our online and postal services - see the ones re title plans/registers and/or deeds.

If it was actually an obvious driveway, would you park there?

The fact that there is nothing but shop bought signs would indicate it IS private to me, and it is incredibly annoying when someone blocks up spaces that ARE yours.

Our old house was at the end of a terrace of three, and we had a car park at the far end of the terrace. Each house owned a section of this car park, although this wasn't marked out on the ground. The house at the far end was on the market for most of the time we owned ours, and it was a regular thing to come home to a viewer's car blocking up my space. Used to drive me up the bloody wall.

Worse, as our house was very rural and in a very popular hiking area, on more than one occasion we had random members of the public parking up in our car park and going off for a walk in the countryside. These ones I used to block in, and would then pretend not to hear the knocks on the door. Why? Because although it had nothing to show this, the car park was private property.

That sounds a bit like my street, which consists of two blocks of flats with parking spaces outside them. Where the school round the corner holds events and puts up signs telling people "Parking is available in My Street". They're spaces for the residents' use, it's not a free car park for you to invite people to use as it suits you!

Did they not just move your car out of the way?

And how would they have done that?

    Couldn't find an appropriate section...

In short the block of flats next to my house have tons of parking spaces and put a not on visitors cars if they dare park there.

I admit the visitors may be in the wrong as there a clear "residential parking" signs, but what do they mean.

Anyone can buy a sign on ebay and alike and put it up.

There are no lines nor council notices or restrictions

    all opinions welcome

If people didn't park in a space that is clearly marked "Residential Parking" in the first place, then there would be no need to have to resort to putting a sign on the cars....must be highly irritating to come home to find your space has been taken by some inconsiderate idiot

Its not illegal or anything to stick a sign on someone's car if that's what you're getting at? But it shouldn't have to be done, if it says residential parking then more than likely the residents pay/have paid something when they bought their flat that includes use of said parking space? Also a lot of flats charge a yearly maintainence fee for upkeep etc, so it might be included in that maybe?

There are 6 spaces outside my house. Neighbour A has one, I have one, two visitors spaces and two spaces for Neighbour B. There's a fourth house which has a double driveway at the side of their property.
I don't drive, so allow my space to be used by neighbour A who lets her brother to use hers (he lives on the next street and has no parking) and her partner uses my space. Neighbour B's spaces are occasionally used by her visiting ex husband. The two visitors spaces are used by visitors to any of the four houses on our road, but are intended for myself and neighbour A, as we only have one dedicated space each.
They are effectively our driveways, however due to the layout of the cul-de-sac, it was more practical to have a small car park than driveways. We pay towards their upkeep, and the whole car park is a tidy little block-paved affair.
However, due to a lot of local houses not having parking etc, we started getting people parking in the spaces, which was annoying when neighbour A's partner or brother would get home and find someone parked in their space.
We'd leave a polite note on the window saying "this is a private parking space, please do not park here again."
I had one cocky bloke with a severe attitude problem knock my door after he had parked in the visitors spaces (yup, right in the middle of the two spaces, meaning my health visitor had nowhere to park when she came) he got all shouty and told me he had phoned the council and was told he could park there as they were visitors spaces.
After explaining that they were for visitors to our cul-de-sac, not the whole area, and also that the council had no say in it as they didn't own the land, he decided to stand in front of me, ask for my Housing Association's number, and then phoned them on loudspeaker. He was all cocky about it until the housing officer told him that they were private spaces and he would need permission from myself and neighbour A as we paid for them. Needless to say, after his attitude that was never going to happen so he stormed off.
All was quiet until a fortnight ago, another unknown car parked in the visitors space. A polite note was put on the car, and after 24 hours it hadn't moved. Thought this was unusual (not even the note was moved, and it was a nice car).
Quick call to the police by neighbour A and it turns out the car was stolen. Since then, the housing association have put up signs saying it's private parking for residents of a, b & c Our Road.
If it wasn't for that little note we probably wouldn't have noticed that nobody had been back to the car.

Tl;dr. Don't park there. That car park is paid for by someone, and if it's not public then it's likely paid for by the residents. Number of spaces vs flats is irrelevant. It's bloody annoying to find idiots parked in your space because they think they're entitled to park anywhere they like. It's akin to parking on someone's drive, and is just plain inconsiderate.

If anyone parks in my space, I park my car as close as i can behind them so they are completly blocked in, then when they knock on my door, asking me to move, I say ill be out in a minute, and leave them waiting for 15 minutes....its great fun.

In response to the Op don't worry and keep parking in the visitor space there, as it's obvious that there are enough parking spaces available!

What's a note on the winscreen anyway? I get them all the time for parking on public roads in front of peopls houses!
