Bought new clothing and it was nicked in the carpark

I went to Asda earlier this morning and bought an item of clothing. I always put my purchased clothes in a new carrier bag and away from food etc.
Bumped into a friend in the carpark and had my trolley to the side of me and chatted for 4-5 mins.
Got to the car (about 40 yards from where I bumped into a friend) and noticed that my carrier bag was nicked.
Customer services are unwilling to give me a refund/gift vouchers or free replacement. I am fuming! They say it was nicked outside the store area. The supermarket's car park constitutes as the store area!
About 9 months ago, at Sainsburys, I went shopping when it was very windy and a t-shirt I just bought flew out of the bag and landed on the roof of a trolley bay which was covered in moss etc. CS were able to give me an replacement for free. As its a freak act of nature.
What shall I do if Asda are unable to refund either back to my card or gift vouchers or replacement?

It's not asda's responsibility to keep *your* shopping safe. Why should they fork out because you were so engrossed in conversation you didn't notice somebody stealing your stuff?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

You left your shopping on an unattended trolley in the carpark, it's entirely your own fault that it got stolen. Asda are under no obligation to replace it for you, there is nothing you can do if they refuse and what Sainsbury's did is irrelevant.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Surely you should keep an eye on your shopping and not ASDA. There are signs all round their carpark stating they don't accept liability for theft or loss0

I have also seen where a customer dropped a bottle of booze in the same carpark to get a free replacement. Though it was their stupid fault for putting in 4 bottles of wine in a flimsy free carrier bag!0 -

How daft do you have to be FGS? Grow up and take some responsibilty for your life.
Oh and the bottle breakage thing not always down to a customer, sometimes the Assistant on the tills put them in the flimsy bags so yes they do have that policy in most of the big SM's.0 -

Perhaps they did that out of goodwill because they acknowledged that their carrier bag was not suitable for its purpose (i.e. carrying shopping). As far as I know, carrier bags don't have built-in anti-theft devices, so there really is no reason for Asda to compensate you for your carelessness0 -
How are they to know it was really pinched off you anyway? I'm sure you have given them a good laugh for the day!0

I have phoned Asda and they will check the CCTV cameras in the car park and they will check.
If they cannot find footage of the stealing, then I take it on the chin and accept I have lost £8.
Horseunderwater, I did mention the bottle of wine situation to the person I spoke on the CSD and they said that the cashiers are only allowed to put in two bottles of wine per carrier bag, so its the customer's stupidity, not Asda's. Though it was my stupidity for not putting my carrier bag with the item of clothing underneath the shopping or inside another bag, I lose out.0 -

They probably got a free replacement because Asda provided the flimsy carrier bag in the first place.
You see how that is entirely different to walking of leaving your shopping 40 yards behind you?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I did not have my trolley 40 yards from me. It was next to me and my car was parked 40 yards from the place I had the chat with my friend.
I did not mention about my trolley being abandoned 40 yards from myself in the OP.0
