Polly, this website will tell you about what facilities they provide, I looked up mine and it was a touch out of date though (as in they've recently stopped providing ante-natal classes). Also don't always take bad reviews to heart people generally will only speak out about something if they had a negative experience so they're not necessarily an accurate picture of what it's like.Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0

I just checked the closest hospitals for me using Fritha's link and the two closest hospitals do the first scan at 16-19 weeks!!!!!! The second one though, at 20 weeks... I am not pg yet, just ttc, but I wouldn't like to wait till 16-19 weeks till the first scan....Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

Don't worry too much ginvzt - it says that my local hospital doesn't do water births but I know that it won an award for it's waterbirth service earlier this month
the information on there isn't entirely up to date...
Hubby thinks waterbirths are hippy carp though :rotfl:please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
I don't go for my tour until past 24 weeks but I assume the birthing pool is in a completely different room and, as I'm contemplating a water birth, I won't get to stay in that one room all the time after all! I was told about the water birth facility at my booking appointment last week.
Have never entertained the idea of a home birth. I'm too much of a wimp not to have strong drugs on standby (I know, gas and air only with a water birth, but just in case that doesn't cut it!), plus I don't really want there to be a spot on the living room floor which I constantly look at and think "I give birth there"!0 -
at my hospital there is 2 wards one for high risk which is the labour ward where u can have ur own room when in labour sometimes but sometimes its got 2 beds in and your midwife is almost always in with u or theres ones close by which is where i had recent baby and eldest son.
then theres the CMU which is in another ward where u have ur own room on tv dvd player radio bed and chair sink etc u can basically do as u please and the midwifes come only when u need them u can get up get ur own drinks and theres a toilet and bath right by u aswell this is where i had my daughter.riley john born june 28th 2.35pm-8lb14.5 hour labour from waters to birth.0 -
Hi Candygirl and welcome to the thread! Oh, and congrats on being a soon-to-be-Nanna! xMy_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »Can I ask a silly question ladies (first timer!) what kind of clothes do you take to come home in? Maternity clothes? I am thinking of what kind of trousers more than anything...
I know it is a long way off but it seems to have stuck in my head with all the bag packing posts recently!
Elasticated trousers!:rotfl:. Your most comfiest and loyal pair
.
Also, can I just add, try and make sure the bath towel and PJ's you take in are a darkish colour (for obvious reasons). I also popped a pack of value 'full' knickers from Tesco/Asda into my trolly each week. I had no inclination to wear paper ones (due to what my bits had to endure!) and wore two maternity towels and two pairs of nics at all times. Far too stressful thinking about little accidents! I simply threw the ones away that were beyond repair :rotfl:. Do not underestimate how many maternity towels you will need!
However, I swapped to Always night time ones after a while when the bleeding calmed down .
Re home births, I couldn't possibly have contemplated one. I was and still am too scared!. The hospital I chose is a specific womens hospital. Its by no means the nearest but I wanted the best specialist care for me and baby in the event of things going wrong. In the end I had an emergency forceps delivery with Poppy

Thanks for the welcome Septemberbaby, and I love the name Poppy[strike]it was my old dogs name:o [/strike]no offence but I do love that and Daisy, and Amber which were my 3 labs:)
Can anyone tell me when they can do a scan to determine the sex of the baby?
It's all new again to me now:o
ps I had an emergency forceps with DD too, and haven't forgotten it after 21 years:eek: "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

And that's as long as you're in an area where they'll tell you! Some health authorities have a policy of not telling - ARGH!
I definitely want to know. Luckily ours will tell. 11wks for me to wait... *twiddles thumbs*0
