    Congrats, elle_gee, Millies Mum and r.mac!!! :j

    Welcome to the thread x
  • I have one more question today. Does anyone else have a pain that is in the bum/high leg/back pelvic area? It's like severe cramp or dead leg, and is bad enough to stop me walking. I have to stand still for a bit and kinda wiggle about. But it's only when I stand up from sitting down. Once I walk around for a bit, it fades away. Is it a trapped nerve or something?

I have this also - can be sciatica or something called Pelvic girdle Pain (I think I've got that right) I went to the doctor and he referred straight away to Physio which wasn't ever so useful but she did give me some ideas about how to get out of bed with dead leg etc...

The thing that surprised me about this was that the dr was very keen to sign me off work and said that for this type of pain the only thing I could do was rest. I didn't want to be signed off as I love my job but thought it was interesting - I have never had a doctor want to sign me off before!

    Hope this helps
Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet...

thanks bethom, i am sure you will be fine, you sound like a strong person, just think in ten days your baby will be in your arms.

i think i have gone past the point of worrying, hopefully, after OH and son giving me so much stress am thinking about this baby and wandering if better to bring it up myself.

Well only you can decide what is going to be the best for your situation. Always think long and hard about any decision that you intend on making so you can make the best judgement for your circumstances. :)
Can i join please, I was thinking about actually joining TTC instead of just reading along this month but it turns out that I am expecting already.

I already have a 4 yr old, any tips on how/when to tell her welcome!

TBH I don't think they take it in much at first, well my two didn't. It's only been really since I had a noticable bump that they start getting it. I told our eldest after I had been for my 12 week scan when he got home from school. He is 5 yrs old and was like oh ok, took a look at the scan pic and off he went to play. :rotfl:

We had to take our youngest with us to the scan and she sat on daddy's knee watching the screen. We told her we were going to see if there was anything in mummy's tummy and she had to guess if there was. She decided there was a tiger in there. :rotfl: When we were told all was looking fine we told her it was a baby that was in there. So then she decided it was a baby tiger, ohhh the innocence at 3 yrs old!

I think the most important thing is to get them involved early on so they don't feel left out. Some children see a new sibling as a potential threat. So with DD we play games like what is baby doing, where she listens to my tummy with her stethoscope and tells me what is happening in there. (A lot of dressing up as a princess, eating and sleeping!) With DS he has been reading through baby name books and seeing what names he likes. I get them to help me prepare the baby things in the bedroom and help decide on clothes for the new arrival.

They are very excited now and can't wait to meet their new sibling. They have packed their cases ready for their trip to nanny and grandads house while I am in hospital and have packed the baby's things in my bag ready for when it arrives. (Including a whole pack of nappies cos babies poo a lot! :rotfl:)
I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here :)

Very helpful, thank you. I've been trying to look up information on the net, and I have found some stuff, but although what I have is painful at times, some of the descriptions are way worse than what I have. So maybe I should count myself lucky.

I will mention it at my next midwife appointment next week (25 weeks) and see what she says. I live in a particularly bad area and can't see her referring me anywhere, but I can, but try.

Don't really want to be signed off work as I've got about 2 months left of work and the money is rather handy. I've never been signed off before, but I'm assuming I wouldn't get paid for it?

I would definitely mention to MW - mine got worse through my pregnancy. Am now 37 weeks and sometimes can't walk at all. Certainly can't get knickers or trousers on whist standing up! :D

There is some weird rule about being off sick when pregnant and I can't remember what it is. I think if you get signed off quite late then it just kicks in your maternity leave early - otherwise I'm guessing that it would just be counted as normal sick leave and you should get paid???? I'm sure someone out there will know much better than me!

I second sciatica, I had it pretty painfully a few weeks ago, then it went then it swapped to the other leg for a bit but not too bad now it's mostly not there but pops in occasionally!

My mw recommended sitting on a gym ball to ease it but if it get really bad they can send you to physio for exercieses. My mw also said that it can ease off later on as the baby grows and stops pressing on the stuff it's currently pressing on!

I recommend gentle swimming, I found that helped me so much it was ridiculous!
Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!
