  • Thanks for letting us know Choc, im sure everything will be fine and at least they are keeping an eye on you and baby. I will be thinking of you x

Although the baby is still quite active the movements are less noticable as she cant really kick as much now, its more like little squirms if that makes any sense.

3Kids at 34 weeks i was measuring 34 cms but like others have said it doesnt really give an acurate picture and i dont think the midwifes worry too much if your a little out. I know it doesnt help or stop you worrying any less but im either 'Huge and ready to pop' or 'Tiny with ages left to go'.

Try to ignore the comments about your bump or just tell people to !!!!!! off. I am seriously tired of people asking me questions, making comments, bumping into me or just staring at my belly - OH has now started saying 'YES, IT'S A BABY!!' to the gawpers :rotfl:

8 more days until due date
 I love my gorgeous little girl
  • "I have my own sleeping tips which include having a window open and lying next to a pillow as I have SPD and always have a drink etc next to me, oh and a pen and paper as I'm a worrier and I always think of things that need doing at night time and by writing them down, I can clear them out of my head. But they are all personal things. "

Mrcow, can I ask how you gave birth (if it's not too personal!). I can only open my legs about 11cms at the moment so unless it's a really small baby there's going to have to be some planning ahead for labour...

    EDD - May 10th 2008 (1st child)
Mum - Denise, Dad - Steve (me)

Time seems to have flown by, can't believe it's less than 4 months away now. There are a few items we need to buy and I'd like people's opinions on what we have been considering. We'd also love to hear about any alternatives that people maybe able to suggest.

Monitor - BT Baby Monitor 150
It has all the things want like room temperature, 2 way speaking etc. and even a few added bonuses like vibrating alert, torch on parent unit so you don't have to put all the lights on at night. The main advantage this seems to have over competitors we have looked (mainly Tomy units) at his a far superior battery life when the parent unit is off the base unit.

Bouncing Cradle - Fisher Price Kick and Play Cradle
Initially, and for a long time, we had our hearts set on the Fisher Price Rainforset Cradle but then we read a few bad reviews about it being quite small and that it makes the baby lie too flat. W then changed our choice to the Kick and Play Cradle as it's £10 cheaper which is always nice but mainly beacue it got more favourable reviews and the kick activated lights and sounds seemed to be a big bonus.

Gym - Baby's Play Place (just put that into the Mothercare website and comes up)
This is quite an expensive gym/mat but it looks very multi-funcional in that the shape can change and it can be made to have walls to stop and escape attempt! It can also be made into a tunnel. We like that it changes with the baby's development: Newborn -> Rolling -> Tumy Time -> Crawling -> Activity Play.

    Breast Pump and Sterlising 'Gear'
This is something we have no idea about - the electronic ones are far more expensive, but are they that much better? Also, sterlising gear and bottles are a bit of mystery. There also seem to e so many bottle options: anti-collic, easi-vent and ones with teats made to be just like a nipple - so confusing! Any suggestions and opinions would be most gratefully welcomed.

I think that's about it for the moment - thanks for any input :)
  • hi puddles - buying baby bits is a bit of a minefield isn't it. Even though this is my fourth baby i am still in the dark about what to buy really. I got rid of most things after my son and have started buying again. i have really tried to go for value for money this time and not buy unneccessary clutter. Some of what i have bought are ;
Graco mosaic one travel system (not to big a travel system:
microwave avent steriliser (had a new one of these for all my kids and work the best for me),
Fisher price rocker which goes from birth to approximately 4,
Mamas and Papas teddy play mat (great re-sale value!)
Moses basket for £30 incl. mattress - no stand though as need this for downstairs and am going to place baby in it inside the cot for the time being.
I have bought other things on offer with extra points at boots, for example bedding. Daren't make another boots order as spent a fortune - along with the 75% sale. Bought a great baby nation set for £15 which converts from a baby gym to nursing pillow and the same pillow can be used when baby is learning to sit.

Wouldn't bother with a breast pump unless you know you are going to be using it - you can always pick one up if you need one later. Wouldn't stock pile on things like bottles until you have tried them as you might not get on with the sort you buy. I intend to breastfeed but the avent steriliser comes with a couple of bottles just in case. I might even get a carton of milk in in case baby needs it.

Sorry can't comment on the things you are looking at as never had any of them but through my research the above items are what i think will work best for me. A lot of it is about lifestyle - so what will suit the way you live best.

Not bought a monitor this time yet as not sure if i will need one

Hi all just found out I am pregnant this week. I am about 6 weeks gone and have my first drs appointment on Tuesday. So excited. Feeling ok, tired and have bladder the size of a pea but apart from that can wait for the next 35 weeks!!!!!

Little worried about money though, wondering waht benifits we may be entitled to as I really want to be a stay at home mum and not go back after my maternity leave. I will have a right good read of this thread now. xxxx

Thanks for the advice 3KIDSNOMONEY - I did a search for a Fisher Price rocker and found one for £49.99 which turns from a cradle to a rocking chair - looks pretty good and to have something that lasts 4 years rather than 6 months makes it seem so much better value.

    Congrats mennie :)
  • PUDDLES - the fisher price rocker which goes to approx. 4 years is available at 39.99 at Argos. I bought mine from Boots on offer for 31.99 but they are out of stock at the moment. Definitely worth shopping around for things and if you shop at boots try to get extra points. Worth joining their baby club for extra points and coupons too.

Congrats Mennie. Welcome to the club.

  • Feeling a wee bit sorry for myself today. Woke up with sore feet and hands, then started getting lower abdominal pain. I was supposed to be helping my mum and brother decorate our new flat today but felt so rubbish I went home to bed. Feeling a bit better now but OH has been at work all day and wont be take til late as he is begining a new training that will bring in more money but is going to take a lot of hours to get there. I am currently sitting surrounded by boxes and mess, I wish I could get some things done but I don't think it will do me any good. Anyway moan over, I hope eveyone has had a good day. I am looking forward to going to lidls tomorrow to get my body pillow!!!

Hi, I too am finding all this baby stuff a minefield!!! I'm on my fourth, but my last was 8 years ago and I'm trying to be as cost effective as possible, because I use to waste money on so much stuff that never got used.

For anyone after a steriliser, I picked up the tommee tippee microwave one complete with 3 back to nature bottles for 10.00 in Asda on saturday.I was really pleased as although I'll be breastfeeding,If the bottles are as good as they claim they are, I can express and let someone else feed too.I'm not sure whether to bother with a pump, as years ago when I got one, It was useless:rolleyes:
