  • Hi All - A quick question for you if that's ok?

I have been having iregular contractions since about 2 o'clock this morning (or at least I think that's what they are). They were about 10 mins apart this morning. Then seemed to stop for a bit. Then came about 15 mins apart, and stopped again. Now I've just had 2 about 5 mins apart, but then nothing for 20 mins again  They are quite painful really - although I'm a big wuss!!
Do you think this sounds like the beginning of labour, or is it just braxton hicks or the baby positioning himself? He's been moving round loads more than normal today.

Keep thinking something's starting, but then it all stops. Has anyone else had this? My waters haven't broken, and I haven't had a show yet...

Hey Yorkshirechick. I hope this is it for you!!!
I'm not speaking from my own experience here, never having been pregnant but I'll give ya my 2cents (please anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

I think labour and the signs of labour are different for everyone and every baby. No show / waters breaking is fairly common, these can happen later in labour. The contractions on and off could be bh or they could be the real thing, I think the only way to tell is to wait it out. If it's bugging you, maybe take a little trip to the hospital, they'll more than likely send you away again, but if it would give you peace of mind at this point in time, then I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I know that, especially with a first baby (not sure if this is your first but no others are mentioned in your signature) that these can be real contractions, but that they can go on for hours / days / weeks like this. 2 friends who have given birth recently were like that - one for about 28 hours but once labour got going properly, the bubs was out so fast, the other for 11 days ending in a c-section cos bubs got stressed, I don't think it's possible to tell. But with your due date being so near, it could be the real thing.

I'm sure it's the last thing you feel like doing, but keep active, go for walks, eat spicey food (all the usual), go for more walks....they're meant to be brilliant. Only time will tell for you but keep us updated!! Bubs will come when he wants to and I'm sure you wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck and I hope things really start moving for you and go really well and that you're back here soon telling us all about the little one (with photos might I add!).

Ohh, how cute, he looks lovely Shelvis.

A quick question if I may. I'm TTC, last month was our 1st month, but I've been off the pill for 5 months and eating healthily. The 1st day of my last period was 7th Dec. My cycle is normally 26 -29 days. I did a preg tast on new years eve and another on the 3rd of Jan. Both were -ve so I assumed that I wasn't pregnant. Also, I was having some period pains which I usually have a day or 2 before my period. Last night my nipples were sore even without touching them (which I've never experienced before-they felt very hot?!), that combined with the fact my period is 3 days late it suddenly dawned on me that I might be pregnant despite the earlier -ve tests. So, I got up this morning and did another preg test and its still -ve but I've still got tender nipples and no period and no period pain. What is going on? I just hope I'm not being silly and making it up in my head! Anyone else had a similar experience? Is it common to have a false -ve result when approx 4-5 weeks preggers?
    Thanks xx

Yes!! - this happened to me. was a few days late and took a test and it was negative, then went of on a holiday with friends, lots of drinkies and all the things that you shouldn't do/have, brie, peanuts went on one of those flying fox things!! (with my past history of miscarriages - not good thing). Anyhow, was a bit 'bunged' up when away, but put it down to being in a caravan with another couple :o and all the rubbish food that we had consumed, took another test when I got home because I still had not started, and there it was a very faint blue mark, so faint we were both there examining it. Waited a couple of days and did another one, in the morning, and it was a good strong line. So yes - do not lose heart, and my dates were spot on, I was at least 5 weeks pregnant before it was clear on the test. Gave birth a few months later to a very large healthy daughter (10lb 6oz!!) :T

Sorry just realised I hijaked this and did not introduce myself, hello all, I have 2 daughters (5 & 2) and would really like to have another at some point, but after much debating, I think we are going to wait for 6 months - need to lose some weight before i pile it on again :rotfl: :rotfl:

Have been lurking for months though and you are all making me uber broody!!:D many congratulations to you all.
    DD1 - May 02 8lbs 6oz
    DD2 - June 05 10lbs 6oz

sorry not to have updated! have been a bit busy

baby Ben (yes a boy! :o ) was born Friday 4th at 3.50ish am :) approximate time as we didn't think to check straight away  we were at home, but things didn't exactly go according to the plan - not the calm relaxing waterbirth I'd hoped for! the midwives didn't quite make it in time and DH had to catch the baby as he came out in the pool :D

anyway, we're all fine and as long as he's being cuddled Ben is quite happy :D his three big sisters are all arguing over who gets to hold him next....

the photos aren't brilliant, he's still a bit squished up and newborn looking!

  • Awww bumpybecky he's so cute. I love the 'squished up newborn' look, something very cute and innocent about it, they look so startled, kinda like 'now how did I get here!?!?

Hope that even though things didn't quite go to plan that all was alright and you're now getting settled in with a newborn. Hmm, is that a bit of a contradiction - settled....newborn....?? lol. You didn't know whether you were having a boy or girl did you?? Was that through choice? Hubby says he'd like to know - I'm not sure. I might feel differently when I'm preg though. In some ways I'd love the surprise, in other ways, I'm sure my body would feel surprised enough after pushing a small gorilla through the eye of a needle....argh!!!
Anyways, hope you guys setle soon and enjoy all the little cutness and quirkiness parts of a newborn.

    Posting at 1:02am, fun :o
Actually, I don't think the nights will be such a problem for me. I'm a night person and have spent many, MANY sleepless nights. It's been about 8 weeks since I had more than a few catnaps, eek!
The mornings however ... argh, I'm totally not a morning person! How do you all manage to get up!?! Even if by some stroke of luck I get an early night and sleep through, I'm still a nightmare in the mornings. I know it's impossible to ignore a screaming baby and I never would wanna ignore anyway, but how do people manage the mornings?!?!? Does it get easier? That's probably the only thing I'm 'dreading' when I think about having kids.

Hope everyone and their babies / kidlets are fast asleep. Sweet dreams.

Bumpybecky - he's lovely - and such a lovely name. Basically was our only name for a boy (which is obviously going to go unused!). Glad you did get your home birth though, even if not quite to plan!I know several second plus time mums who's hubby ended up catching the baby (including in car parks!).
CLM - you have enough practise getting no sleep when you're pregnant, and believe me being a night person is very different when you are not staying up, but getting up and down and up and down. DS was feeding every 2 hours for 3/4 hour (he was small though and many aren't this bad) and I was a complete zombie, and not being a morning person either found it very tough for the first couple of months. Once you can get about 3 hours sleep at a stretch it gets easier though. I actually found it easier to get up and do things in the morning (ie going out to groups etc) and then chilll in the afternoons as this was more when it hit me and I felt I had at least achieved something that day! If you can get hubby to look after the baby when you have a shower it makes it easier. This time I have two days of a nursery run (by bus) to do before ds starts school in September and dh will be leaving for work at 6-6.30 am so should be interesting.
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
  • Hi there, I'm a newbie! I'm due on the 5th April so am on 28 weeks this Saturday. :D
  • congrats to the new mums and dads - the babies are all adorable.

Anybody else feel a little bit down this time of year. Only 7 weeks to go for me and i am finding things a struggle. Youngest startest school and am finding the school run with 3 and bump difficult, plus all the extra clubs that they do, plus numerous other pressures at the mo. Sorry, just feel like a moan. Beginning to worry as to how i will cope when baby is here as it will be another little person to look after. On the plus side i have started to buy lots of bits for the baby - although i am really being a good MSE member and not buying things i don't need and when i am buying using codes/offers etc. My eldest says i don't buy or do anything unless i have a voucher.

Anyway, thanks for letting me have a bit of a moan - off to write a list of things that need doing.
    now mum of 4!!!
  • Hi Girl and the City. Dunno how much you've read through on here but there's a bit of a range of people. There's obvioulsly ppl through different stages of their pregnancy, there's those ttc, there's those who have had their babies who have mostly moved on to the parent forum, but keep dropping in to say hi (or organise the list ... i.e SeptemberBaby!). And then there's a few like me, who are planning on ttc at a later date and just enjoy coming on here and seeing what we're in for!!!

Have you any other kids? Hope everything is going well.
