You don't need to test it before going into labour but you should put it on early in labour to test that it works for you and that you are comfortable with it and know how to use it by the time it gets really painful. I found it worked for me. :rotfl:Good luck

Hi I'm interested in tens machines also - where you get them from that is and how much it should cost me to hire/buy one ...I've only got 2 and a bit weeks to go so am hoping to get one early next week when I finally start my mat leave. I dont really want to buy one as I'm sure I will never use it again however the hire seems a bit expensive in comparision and maybe I'm better off with my own . What do you peeps think?

On another note ...went to a family (HIS!) do last week and wished I hadn't EVERY SINGLE FEMALE i SPOKE TO TOUCHED MY BUMP THE SECOND i SAID HI!!!! in the end i was feeling quite violent about it ....however I have noticed also felicity that after several months living on cloud 9 my mood seems to have sunk somewhat lolol ...only 17 more days + (or minus) extra time to go....

I bought mine in the Boots sale, reduced from £80 to £20  :D Mind you have just tested it and the batteries that came with it don't seem to work and I don't have any spares in the house! Hope I don't go into labour tonight!

I too looked into hiring but they are expensive. I think a low cost option would be to maybe buy a second hand one on ebay, a lot of people seem to be selling them. My health centre offered me theirs to borrow for free but I would still have needed to buy new pads which were quite expensive and I couldn't guarantee I would be able to get it when I needed it.

Sorry to hear that your mood has dropped too! I hope we all get back on our clouds ASAP. It's such a shame isn't it? I have felt so happy, deliriously happy in fact for months now. I can't ever remember feeling as happy in life EVER and now I am just feeling low and down in the dumps and I want my positive mood and positive baby vibes back!

I'm so glad to hear it worked for you. Many people say they aren't that effective (like putting a band aid on a broken arm one friend said), but hey I'm willing to try anything!

I wanted to get the one I recognised from all the literature - the Elle Tens. Buying one was £70, so I opted to hire one. Off the internet. Where all the prices are identical (£26ish), as apparently they all come from the same company - and prices are set by them. It arrived all shiny and new and immediately. And I'm glad I did it, as you never know, better to have everything and anything handy for the pain.
They recommend you receive it 3 weeks before your due date, but apparently get a lot of 'I'm due tomorrow! Panic!' requests.
The machine seems rather complicated though, next time I'd opt for something with less options...

Show off... But you do realise you're having twins right? I'm guessing it won't even help if Mrs jtotheb stuck her fingers in a power point! Have a paracetamol and a warm bath... yeah right, thanks! I am so scared...

CG - I was diagnosed with that . Don't think they got it right though, I don't have any pain, just went numb once or twice. Hope the pain goes away.
