Feeling really low today. Got lots on my mind unrelated to baby and at the moment my pregnancy feels like it is coming last. really disappointed with care given during pregnancy and contemplating homebirth - anyone got any pros and cons of this.
keep talking to your midwives about homebirth - it took until we were 30 weeks or so before we got anywhere (not negative before that just lax about details etc). In the end we had an emergency c-section but we spent the first 24 hours at home and used the pool, I wouldn't change any of that time at all and I think it meant that when we did transfer to hospital it was a positive experience as it was our choice not something imposed on us. My one piece of advice though is be prepared for plans to change and have a hospital bag packed anyway ;)

helend what is a surestart area and how do you know if you are in one?? Is there somewhere online I can check?

Found some sanctuary mum to be foot and leg spritz today in boots clearance for 50p!

Should be able to find something thru this website, or ask your MW next time you see her, I know in our area they work quite closely together.

how do you "register " with SS and do you have to be on low income for the freebies? i have a surestart centre in my area - and i work "in the field" so know some bits about it, i can access the baby massage etc but some of the other things courses etc you have to be out of work or on low income

    how did you register?

does everyone else get fed up (to put it politely) of the phone calls asking how you are all day long? i have told my parents to lay off and i will tell them if im not okay as i get so frustrated - i get off my bum to answer the phone to be asked "how are you? what you doing?" and thats the extent of conversation
just had MIL ring and i said fine thanks for the hundreth time today - she is so huffy and said "fine then i wont ring again" how frustrating, she really pees me off sometimes. i said sorry but thats all i get all day and i get a bit fed up and she said well we cant all help being excited for the baby - that made me even more mad - like stuff you emma but you are carrying my grandchild.

    ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

then theres the texts "when ru due? have you dropped (lovely phrase) yet? any signs yet? have you had baby? when do you think labour will start? let me know when anything happens"
i still have 9 days till my due date !!!!!!!

sorry i just had to rant on here cos if i even mention being peed off at MIL hubby will get all defensive about her and say im being unfair.

You know what. I really think Mrs jtotheb and I are missing out on stuff here. As we're having twins, we're consultant led and they don't seem to be at all pro-active about talking to us about anything other than the medical side of things.

Everyone on here seems to get so much information from their midwives about other stuff. Where as we come away from our ante natal appointments feeling as though we've been rushed through.

i dont know, i get a ten minute appointment with my MW, ive had 6 upto now (im 39 weeks ) she does my BP, urine, feels my belly, does the doppler and im out again!
ive had two antenatal classes lasting 1 and half hour each - one on labour (video and walk round unit) and one on breastfeeding
i think thats why this thread is so popular we all kind of muddle through and help each other !!

I need a good kick up the backside :p

It certainly sounds to me like someone at your workplace needs that kick, not you! Not that I am suggesting you go and administer said kick to the ignorant mother to be

I do feel rather sorry for her baby if she is still drinking/smoking like that - not exactly the best start in life for it.

Try to keep your head up hon, you are doing everything right and that is the main thing. I know its alot easier said than done and that we all feel like :wall: , but us TTC ladies really do need to try and relax. :grouphug:

Take care to everyone on here be they TTC or awaiting the big day.

I'm sitting in work just now close to tears :(
I work in a small office of three men and one other lady who is pregnant!!!
oh miss pink, I'm so sorry you have to listen to that all day, I know exactly what you mean about not being a jealous person but you can't help thinking what you're thinking - not the same but a girl at work announced her pregnancy when I was just 5 weeks and feeling crap - I was angry and jealous that she was over those risky few weeks and I wasn't, it wasn't fair :o I posted at the time and some of the other girls here had similar stories of feeling rather irrational towards people - it really doesn't feel fair when it's you.

Sometimes it's best to have a bit of a whinge and get it out of your system, don't bottle it up though, that's what this thread is for.

Hope you are feeling a bit better soon.

Dormouse, thankyou for the weight information i just cant wait to shed some of this bulge - i do like being pregnant but also i like wearing nice clothes and not sweating all the time! :o
Erm, have to disappoint you about the sweating - it gets worse after the birth. :o I keep a pint-size cup of water by my bed, and refill it once during the night, so that's two pints of water just at night-time - that's how hot and sweaty I am. :o Nice. Oh well, at least that means all the liquid causing all the puffiness is going - my ankles are back to their normal size! :j

Can't quite believe I'm on here at this time of night/morning. DS is full of cold and refuses all medicine - he's woken up so many times with snuffles and butting the wall:rolleyes: that I just can't sleep now. Oh the joys....

    how did you register?

When I had my MW appoint there was a SureStart worker who gave me a short form to fill in and the little pack.

If you have a phone number for them, I'd just call them - all the staff I've met are lovely and really helpful. I was reluctant to accept freebies when I was having ds as I was working (tho we were struggling financially) but they said thats what they are there for - to help new families.

Got to admit I've not been to any groups since returning to work after ds, but I remember the groups being free or only charging £1 or £2  for snacks and open to all. Quite a few childminders attended the groups.
  • Hope you managed to get back to sleep, Helen! And poor DS...hope he's feeling better soon x

Did you go to Before the Stork like me? I think I posted the website a while back. Hope you had a great time peeking at your little daughter! My DH was clearly emotional when they said we were having a girl and that really set me off too!
