Hi Curious George
I got my daughters cot bed matress from kiddicare www.kiddicare.com
I suppose it depends on how much you want to pay and what sort of matress you want. I went for a plain boring cheap foam matress which was £20. I decided that if she vomitted, poo'd or other foul things that little people do then I wouldn't feel too bad about throwing it out if it got too bad for her to continue sleeping on. Also cos my daughter is soooo teeny tiny she will probably be able to sleep in her cot bed when she is 16 so I guess I don't mind buying a new matress once every few years at £20.
Maybe I'm not being wise with my money, but I would rather not burst in to tears cos the £300 sprung matress has been soiled!!!
I think that in total I have spent £320 in total to kit myself out with baby stuff (not including clothes). I got a cotbed, matress and pushchair with raincover in one day and spent £200 (kiddicare), £35 on a brand new 3 in 1 highchair (ebay), matalan for bedding cheapest by far for cot bed sheets £7 for 2 fitted sheets, argos for cot bed quilts although all your babies will be too young for them £28 for two (buy one, get one half price), towels with hood £2.50 roughly from my local warehouse (if anyone wants one let me know and I'll go shopping for you), £2.98 for changing mat, £24 for changing bag.
hope that helps a little, but I'm sure that someone with more sense will be along soon

CG: depends on the size of the mattress. Ours, as we found out, was a non-standard size, so we had to get it from Ebay, as there's a couple of companies there that will do a mattress in any size you want. We got ours quickly and the price was good, so I was pleased. Like you, I hate just paying loads of money for something at Mothercare that can be bought cheaper elsewhere.
Anyway, I'm off to type up my birth story.0 -
Well I was told in January this year that I would be unlikey to concieve naturally and I had an appointment to star IVF on 12th June. I have only 1 ovary and tue left because I had a huge 15lb ovarian cyst on my other ovary which crushed it to death so it had to come out. Then I got a tumour (benign) on my left ovary so that was removed and the ovary was repaired. My ovary and tube were stuck with scar tissue to my bowel in a position that made it unlikely my eggs would go down my tubes.
I had acupunture about 5 times and concieved naturally in April. I can't say it was definately this that helped but it certainly seems that way! Seems to have aligned something!
I am now 20 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy.
Good luck with whatever you do try and I do honestly think the key is to relax. Perhaps me knowing I 'couldn't' concieve took the pressure off and allowed it to happen? Who knows. Either way I couldn't be happier :j
Thank you soo much Shelvis for your reply, your story is very insprational and gives me loads of hope
Im going to just chill out and stop being so desperate. Ill book the appt for acupunture at the end of the month and just take it from there. Hopefully it will make me less tense and less stressed and everything will happen naturally.
I love your story and im glad ur now happily pregnant with a mini-shelvis :j

Thanks, Ophie. And I'm sure I saw an advert for a TENS machine for £14.99 from Lloyds this evening! wow.
If anyone hasn't popped into Boots lately, they have all 20% off baby stuff :j. I used some half price vouchers that the Parenting Club had sent me to get some bits and pieces and when I checked my receipt that had actually paid me a few pennies to take the stuff away :rotfl:Now thats what I call an MSE'r! Sorry if TMI, but how many maternity pads and breast pads am I likely to need to start off with? They are also 20% off so might as well stock up!
Dormouse, please come back soon with Your Story!x
CG, we have been given 2 moses baskets which are going to each set of GP's and the cheapest place for mattresses by far was eBay. How emotional was it setting up the cot and remembering your DD as a babe?! Happy hunting x

TMI? on this thread?? are you quite mad!
all i remember is you will need about 24 uber mega brick sized mat pads in the first 2 days and then the bleeding should slow down a little.... ive bought about 4 packs (cheapies from tesco) and might get some more, but will probably change down to ordinary brick pads after the first week (but i guess it all depends on your blood lossand you wont know what thats like til its happening)
Breast pads... the same thing, for example... ive been leaking since about 18 weeks, i could probably feed a baby NOW! lol. so while its not too bad at the moment if its anything like last time im going to be using pads BEFORE the birth,
and i will need a ton for regular changes the entire time im breastfeeding,
im a flaming milk factory!
but some girls barely get any use out of one pack
thanks for the advice about the mattresses girls, i hadnt thought about ebay...
to tell the truth I was too tired to be emotional about the cot last night, and it was only up for 5 minutes just to check we still had all the bits,
maybe when its up for real i might get sniffy over it :rotfl:0 -

any ideas for the best deals? where did you get yours?
I hate just blindly handing over my money to mothercare... they are so over priced
There is a sale on at www.nurseryandtoys.com at the minute, so might be worth having a look there.SeptemberBaby wrote: »Sorry if TMI, but how many maternity pads and breast pads am I likely to need to start off with?
I used 4 packs of maternity pads for the first 10 days or so when the bleeding was really heavy. (I changed them a lot as I had stitches and didn't want to risk infections!!) Afterwards I used thick sanitary towels for a while (Bodyform Ultra were good.)
Breast pads - I use Avent reusable pads (6 in a pack) which are still in use now so good value for money. The Bounty pack that you get after the birth included a couple of disposable Lansinohl (sp?) pads which were really comfy and thinnner than the Avent ones but were quite expensive.0 -
im always on that site Jo
there is a foam mattress in the size we need for a tenner... but it keeps saying its not available to veiw, so im guessing they are sold out0 -
I had an ovary removed several years ago as I had developed a big cyst too. A year later the docs discovered a malignant tumour on the same side, which they removed and followed with 6 months of chemo. I was told at the time that my remaining tube was blocked and that I may not be able to conceive naturally......
7 years later here I am happy, healthy and 13 weeks pregnant (happened naturally) :j :j
So don't give up girls, miracles can happen0
