  • Yep absolutely, if you have had 1 charge or 5 charges then you have the right to reclaim.

By that I meant so many times it totted up to almost 3k.

Sorry if it means cheky. Just want to know how much chance do I have as I so don't want to get myslef into more trouble.

    Thank you.

Hi, I'm new to the board so I apologise if this is the wrong place to post.

I have looked through the threads but not yet found a response specific to my request...

I am currently trying to reclaim bank charges due to financial hardship and these posts have been a great help.

    however...

I had a sole trader business account with HSBC last year, I went overdrawn by £200 at the beggining of the summer, I'm ashamed to say I buried my head, as I was moving house and very busy. when i called in sept to sort the overdraft out the bank informed me the account had been closed and that £8 interest per day had been added over the summer to a total of £1600.00(more than a loan shark). they had not heard from me and had passed on my account to Metro collections (HSBC). I called to see if i could arrange a loan which took an hour to answer all of the questions for them to find out I was self employed and had to see my manager.

I arranged a meeting with the manager of Walton on Thames hsbc who is a smug idiothole (and locally despised amongst local business's). He basically laughed at me and told me I had the lowest internal credit rating he had ever seen and called over an associate to gawp at it. the loan was refused.he then proceeded to discuss the business matters of Stagecoach theatre arts plc (a local business) in front of me!!! I left disgusted.

I called metro to set up a payment plan. they told me it wasnt on thier system anymore and they couldnt help me.

Moorcroft contacted me next stating the ac was with them and with thier very first letter accused me of ignoring them and thier calls (of which there had been NONE). I called and offered to pay £1200 as a settlement (it had been a good summer). they refused and asked for a monthly repayment which I paid (not always on time ) for four months. I called in march for a settlement figure and was qouted £402.00 I happened to have the money so settled in full. they took payment via debit card, i asked the man twice to confirm it had gone through and to send me written confirmation. I heard nothing for three weeks and then received a STERN LETTER saying I was going to be taken to court if i didnt settle. I called and had a rather angry conversation with Moorcroft. they stated that I had paid but they had FORGOTTEN to put it through!!!!

I told them this was thier problem and theycould shove the whole thing.

3 months went by and nothing..

A month ago I received a letter for METRO saying that I had been ignoring thier calls and letters and that they believed I was being deceptive about whereI was living???!! I called them and explained the situation (they had no idea or record of the moorcroft transactions or details). I told them to stuff it and that they need to take it up with Moorcroft. they have called since a few times.

I realise this isnt a long term solution, but my questions are

Do I owe the money still? despite the incompetance?

    and

Can I claim this amount back with my charges proceedure?

    thanks

When you ask the bank to supply the charges information for the last 6 years...you're going on trust? is there the possibility of them short changing you?

the alternative is to ask for all your statements...

That's the safest option ... even if its more work for you - looking out and adding up all your charges.

All you need to do is send cheque for £10 requesting statements and you 'should' receive them:rolleyes::rolleyes:!
  • Submitted my claim on Monday to Natwest for £1100 worth of charges accrued over the last 2 years. This morning received what appears to be a standard response letter. Lessons learned with money now, any money back would be a bonus.

It this is a business account then the hardship route does not exist since it only covers personal current accounts.

has the amount of money(£402.00) EVER been debited from the account which you paid?
By definition, £402.00 is the amount you need to pay if it hasn't been taken since they cannot take it and have not taken it. I would send a letter to Moorcroft who were the ones that offered the amount and send a cheque/postal order/bank draft to them stating this is in full and final settlement of the account agreed last year and if you have the name of the individual and the exact date, then that is crucial.
Send it recorded delivery and state on the letter that failure to receive a response will be seen as acceptance of the settlement.

  • Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me with this, I have been with the halifax since 1997 when i was 15 now i never signed anything for my bank and as such they have never had a sample of my signature. The account itself was opened for me by a former employee of halifax at a branch 200 miles from my home address without me being there or signing anything.

This may sound kinda stupid but can this help me claim back any charges?
