The answer is no as that would be charged as a cash withdrawal. Do you pay any bills through that account? I think you need to clarify what "automated transactions" because on business account those charges are legitimate.

The OFT test case is coming up to the half way mark. The Supreme Court decision will not alter the current situation and will not lead to automatic refunds or the end of the FSA Waiver on Bank charges. The secondary litigation part of the case will decide these issues and further court action is likely.

Barclays reserve useage fees are outside the waiver and inside the OFT test case on bank charges. I would get barclays to remove the Personal Reserve from your account and reclaim the charges in full.

How do you reclaim these charges in full? Ive tried and got the generic response of "You were informed of these charges back in blah blah and if you want to proceed to complain to the Financial Ombudsman please do so"...What they fail to mention is that you cannot complain to the F.O until the court cases are settled...

Has anyone successfully reclaimed these personal reserve charges?

    ALLIANCE AND LEICESTER!!!!!!!!!!!

    can anybody help???
i have applied to the a&l through hardship to get my charges back, but they keep putting me off.
firstly we sent in the letters and proof of hardship(rent arrears) but they said the letter our landlord wrote was not signed. we got it done again and sent it recorded delivery on 25/09/09 , but the a&l say they havnt recieved it, prob because of the postal strike.
however i checked this and the post office tracker says it was delivered the next day!!
i phoned, yet again, on friday(02/10/09) and was told they still havnt got it and that if i want i should go to the fos.
i have requested several transcripts of conversations from them but they will not send them to me because i have caught them lying in these phone calls
what should i do now because i have very little written correspondence from the a&l to go on but all is on the several phone calls
    please advise
    thanks

Just had two successful ppi claims, one for myself against HSBC loan and one for my wife against Alliance & Leicester. We are now trying to get unfair charges back from A & L on my wife's current account. We applied for details of the charges (sent £10 and used the template letter) which were duly sent in the form of monthly statements, however, a number of random statements were missing. Wrote to A & L again (now we had the name of the person who sent the statements) requesting the missing info within the remaining time allowed; they failed to respond in time. Wrote again advising that they had failed to comply and that we were going to report this failure to the Information Commissioner, lo and behold we got the missing statements within a few days!

One of our major gripes is that banks discriminate against customers that are weekly paid. My wife's account can be within its limit at the start and end of the month but because her pay is credited weekly the account can go over limit when monthly bills are paid out resulting in horrendous penalty charges - in one month in 2003 the charges amounted to approx 60% of her wages! At the time the bank charged £25.00 monthly overdraft fee ie £300.00 per annum - the overdraft was for £400.00!!!!

You still reclaim them but they only have to look at them under the banking code on financial difficulties.I would include them in any claim.

Have you confirmed that it has been sent to the bank or the nearest sorting office?
Do a google search under the postcode.

yes it has been sent and finally they say they got it!!!!

today they have told me that they will refund £95 of charges which they say has covered the last 12 months for financial hardship??
not much good to my landlord who is putting us out at the end of the month.

    what do i do now??

    cheers

last friday i came home from work, went on the pc into my a&l account, which duly showed firstly my wages
    secondly my car insurance
and finally a cheque for my oil bill
the bank had issued a letter previous to this stating on the saturday i would have to pay charges totalling £70.
on friday night my wife went to the cash machine and lifted out the remaining cash because if they took the charges on sat we would have nothing to live on!!
however i checked the online account on sat and the a&l changed it about so that it showed the cash coming out of the account first on friday putting us over our o/d limit before my wages came in????
can they do this? since then i have recieved a letter from them telling me to keep my account in order

A & L clearly do not see account holders as customers, we are suckers! Imposing charges just before the end of the month, often on a Saturday, before monthly salaries are credited to current accounts is a blatant attempt to push [STRIKE]customers[/STRIKE] suckers over their limit and thereby incur yet more charges for the benefit of arguably the greediest bank in GB!

    Q. Why dont they take the charges after payday?
    A. No benefit for A & L

OK, they wrote saying that you would have to pay charges on the Saturday but how can the average guy conjure up extra cash just a few days before payday.
