Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges article discussion Part II

Hi everyone!
I've been checking this site for a while now, but this is my first post.
Thanks to Martin's info I've started the process to reclaim charges from Barclays, which total just over £420 incl interest. I said I'd be willing to accept 10% lower than this, but they made a final offer of £225. I'm not impressed with this, but it is better than nothing. Also, I don't want a long drawn out court or FSO process, as the cash will be useful in the near future.
Can anyone suggest what they'd do pls?!0 -

The Story...wrote On 6th April 2007 Asking For My Charges Back.
Had Response Form Hsbc Saying That They Were Looking Into The Matter And Had 8 Weeks To Respond. I Decided To Wait, Then On June 14th Had Offer Letter For £1376.15.. I Have Decided To Accept The Offer As It Is Near The Amount I Was Asking And Took No Work At All To Get.
Cheers Martin For The Templates And Advice...
Ollie.
I`m glad to hear that HSBC paid up for you! well done!
Im putting a claim in for £2778 from HSBC and i sent my first letter 29th May 07 ive received the normal reply they are investigating and have 8 weeks to respond.
I was just gunna wait the 8 weeks like you have! which would be about 24th July 07.
did you follow up your first letter with a phonecall or anything?
I don`t want to be pushy with them, and would just like something back from my charges i agree that they have to charge something!
Please can you respond would be greatly appreciated.

if i were you id go through the processes if you want all your money back. or compromise with them and say you will wipe the interest if they give you the full £420. if you really want it you have to fight for it cos they dont give up easily.0

hello people, i have reclaimed my charges through the FO and finally won ( £4195 in total ). recieved my final letter from the FO this morning stating that they have asked the bank to contact me directly to finalise the matter. however they also say this could take about four weeks. i dont want to wait this long for my money. is there a number i can call to finalise this any quicker?
Hi kayla,
I too am using the FOS. I passed my case to them after getting 2 decline letters for 2 accounts from the BOS on the 56th day. I forwarded it to them a week ago today. Can I ask you how long roughly it took for them to get a result? They have acknowledged my claim and advised that it can take 6 to 9 months. I hope it doesn't take this long, as I first asked for statements in January!!
Thanks Izzy0 -
Still looking for advice my good people. Have received an offer from rbs of the full amount of my claim but minus the interest. Have foned them to try to negotiate a better settlement to at least get some of my interest claim paid but they are having none of it. Has anybody been successful in claiming back the interest element of their claim, especially from the RBS please?0

I have claimed against Barclays and was given a Court date in August. As a
suggestion, on their Defence form you will see a name and a telephone number of a Barclays Solicitor. Ring that number, the answer I had was - we
do intend settling with you the full amount you are claiming, we try to settle three weeks before the Court date. This worked for me, I did the same with
my Barclaycard claim and both were settled and paid to me within fourteen
days of my call to the Litigation & Disputes office. 0207 116 4753
Wow, thanks very much. I have been emailing and posting copies of the bundle and subsequent letters, to this guy (Thomas Hickey) at Barclays litigation. I have printed copies of all Delivery Receipts for the emails. I will certainly ring him; my court date is just over 3 weeks away. Perhaps the amount I am claiming will push them to take me to the line (£4,500 plus around an extra £400 since I submitted the claim). Can't do any harm though, can it. :T0 -

quote your claim number and ask for the name and direct dial of the person dealing with your claim.
Sorry for late reply
Many thanks. I am going to collate the additional charges which they have PILED on me since taking them to court - it's quite a bit - and send that to him today. I don't see why they should get away with continuing to take my money, and I want it all back. I will then ring mid next week, 3 weeks before my court date, to see if they are going to divvy up without me having to go to court. I'll keep you all informed. :T0 -
Can I just check ....I am claiming against the Halifax with MCOL and have been told that if the bank have not submitted a defence by the 25th of June I can file for a judgement, im sure they will but if not I want to get the wheels in motion as early as possible so can I do this on the 25th or would it have to be the 26th?
Thanks0
