Swearing

As much as i wouldn't swear around children, nor did my parents ever swear around me as a child, i don't see the problem amongst adults. I'm 26 and my mum has sworn on the phone before, as i have i (not in anger-just as a way of describing things). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Don't we have censorship 'cos the general feeling of the people is something is unsuitable for some groups to see and hear. Well swearing should be seen the same, if i'm out with a gang of mates and want to swear like a trooper that's fine, but if other people are around it may be inappropriate.
We have censorship because the government decides for us that something is not suitable for us to see or hear. Censorship rarely takes into account age of the potential audience, it is in the majority of cases a society-wide ban on material to further government goals, for right or wrong (rare exceptions do exist, admittedly, such as the removal of a headbutt scene from Attack of the Clones in order to qualify for the PG rating Lucas wanted).
Age restrictions are not quite the same thing as generally speaking, someone wouldn't make a film like Cannibal Apocalypse and argue it was made for children. There's a difference between separating material based on emotional and mental maturity to process information and withdrawing material because of governmental prejudice and moral panic regarding content.
Personally, I have no problem with swearing. I don't swear in front of children, business clients, people I've not met etc. because "society" has decided that is apparently wrong of me to do so, but it would be false of me to say that I actually see any issue with it.
They're words that cannot cause any harm/pain to anybody else and are only deemed unacceptable because some people I've never met say so. The apparently very offensive 4-letter "C" word has only recently fallen into this bracket as it's liberal use throughout historic literature attests yet at some point in the 20th Century it has been deemed as taboo.0 -

Swearing infront of children is not on, but then when you look at the state of some of the mothers nowadays, its no suprise, especially when now, its not uncommon for kids to have kids. There is a lot of jeremy kyle rejects out there.
I probably swear too much. My dad is a lorry driver, and I work in mental health, so get sworn at and called stuff on a daily basis anyway so even in my job, bad langauge is a daily occourance.0 -

So would I.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
I think most people may have sworn at sometime in their lives, at moments of pain, fear and anger. It's a safety valve, and swearing at extreme moments is almost a natural reaction.
Sometimes, swearing can be funny, for example if someone who you think wouldn't swear comes out with the 'F' word it makes everyone laugh, and can diffuse an awkward situation.
I don't find habitual swearing to be offensive as such - I accept people do speak like that. But I do find continual swearing to be rather sad. There are so many beautiful words in the English language, it's a shame that some people can only use the ugly words.Early retired - 18th December 2014

OP I agree with you.
If that makes me a snob to some then I hold my hand up.
I choose where I go shopping because of this as well, as I do not want to see and hear a mother telling her 18month old to *******shut up or she will give him something to ******* cry about.0
