Hi, could you please tell me about being uncharged for maestro? I tried and saw from the web says 0.70 pound per flight per person. Many thanks.

Card charge seems to be based on whether you're booking a 1p seat, or a free seat. It doesn't seem possible to tell until you go all the way through the booking which one you get, but if your flights follow all the rules (mon-thurs, not in the blackout) you might get them for free. Whether they are free or not, clicking on card charge details will tell you ryanair's standard card charges, but if they are free there won't be a line for debit card charge on the confirmation screen/email, and they will just be listed as 1p/flight, which we don't think will be debited from your account.

The pattern is hard to tell, so assume you'll have to pay for the flights and the card charge, but you might get lucky and get them for free :)
  • Hmm, having looked at my statements again, it seems they are charging it to the card even when they don't ask for their card charge. That suggests it's a glitch, since it probably costs them more to process the transaction than they are charging from the card!
The only way to guarantee not being charged is to use visa electron. If you can't get hold of one (children, neighbours, whoever) then you run the risk of a card charge, but you have a good chance of getting lucky with it. I was charged on one set of flights, but not on the other two sets I bought.

Have you tried the B&B hotel chain?

    http://www.hotel-bb.com/

I stayed there last year. It doesn't come up in google searches, but is a French chain, very cheap and right opposite the la rochelle train station. (an easy 10 minute walk to harbour). You can check in anytime using their computerised door access. It's sort of like a travel lodge, but clean and adequate.

If you read this link near to the bottom you'll see they are charging 1p due to technical reasons but it will be refunded at check in.
It seems to be random whether you are charged for using a debit/credit card. I have not been charged for any of the flights I've booked-only the 2p per person return fare.
