My comments are not pathetic, simply because you don't agree doesn't make that so. The bold bit you posted doesn't make any sense to me at all, and you really don't need to get mad, it's an exchange of views not a war.
A lump hammer is a serious suggestion, it's what any tradesman would take to give himself enough elbow room in that position, do you not agree?
Yes I temper my replies with humour, It helps,
Regarding the history of the op and any other thread, no, I'm not aware, and haven't seen or read anything in that respect, so if you have all already decided the op is winding folks up or looking for a hand out I'm sorry, my advice is outside of that.
You can check back my history if you are anal enough, you will see I had a stop !!!! to replace for an elderly relative, maybe 2 months ago?, even the water board !!!! wouldn't shut off, even so, fixed with an hours work and a 5 quid valve, and it was into concrete in a bungalow floor so needed some breathing space smashing out, hence the lump hammer (correct term) comments.
I'm glad said Mr Ted said "it's not JUSTabout support your local plumber", I'll take that as a partial acceptance that there is an element of posting in that respect on the behalf of some tradesman on here.
You are here for your reasons, I offer an alternative, I'd both expect and give respect either way. This isn't a trade forum, it's Joe Public asking how to save money, if I get it wrong and endanger Joe, my hand will go up, but if I can avoid him putting money in your pocket unnecessarily then I will.

Can I ask if you get that without offending you? There is an essential part of the forum title, "In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving,
It would appear that our tradesmen don't agree with your use of the lump hammer or angle grinder.
What sort of engineer were you,,a kwikfit fitter?0 -

Am i good or what
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Why is it that so many threads just have to be turned into d**k measuring contests these days? All that happens is that OPs thread gets trashed, he gets fed up, starts another one in another place and gets the wrong answer in the first reply as a result.

:rotfl:OK :rotfl:that makes you King D**K
according to KS:rotfl:
PS to CB1 I dont have any rates to justify, work is now a distant memory, only problem is, I seem to have a better memory than some who are still qualified and need to justify how they achieved a qualification :rotfl:;)Signature removed0 -
What actually happens is that several sensible suggestions are muted, then a troll, most know the details, decides he wants to bring on a personal vendetta.
I also no longer need to justify anything either, but neither do I fall over for idiots, (not you Mr Ted), the mentality of someone that gets a red card from this forum then rejoins the next week with exactly the same targets escapes me, I think engineer was the right choice, psychology isn't my best subject.
PS Mr KS, That was intended as an explanation of your last question,
Oh, Portly Chopper, the fact that you don't have a single post dated before the time you got expelled is a bit of a giveaway. Not even a brain surgeon could help with let let alone a poor engineer.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I changed a stopcock last Thursday. From a 1/2" one on the old black plastic imperial size incoming main, to 22mm with an adapter from the black pipe to 22mm copper, then onto the existing 22mm copper.
All parts, labour and VAT at £130
Thanks for your lovely information. It really help me.0 -

It doesn't always work, but a good plan 'A'.
Plan 'B' cut out complete valve. (with pipeslice;))
thanks I am thinking about this too. Just have to make sure what size of the stopcock. I think mine is so old. It might be 22mm or 28mm indeed.
Also I need to think seriously about plan B too.
Many thanks for great help0 -
Hi, thanks to you all for all the lovely advice and information. It really top up my knowledge.
I couldn't thanks you all enough...
More update to my case :
At last, I get the information from the water company and now know where is the main outside stopcock.
I bought a new wrench and twist the nut a bit and turn up the water volume more, and now it's just a little little wet (not dipping). I now put more and tighter tape on the joint.
I found it I completely shut it (but the stopcock still let water in), the dipping became worse.
I hope this work longer so I could have more time to save money and find a proper plumber this time during the summer period. (Plan A -just to change part of it OR plan B etc)
thanks for all your great help.0 -
