Plumbers generally use pipe cutters not angle grinders.I would only resort to an angle grinder if the pipe was mild steel but then I only do this for a living so what would I know.
If the pipe is within the threshold of the property then it is the householders responsibility.

You can't get a pipe cutter in, that was the reason for my post, If you look two slashes with the angle grinder and then a lump hammer to give a bit of space at the rear of the valve and it's resistance over. Considering you do that for a living I'm surprised you didn't spot that
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Need to cut the brickwork back then use the cutter.
Use an angle grinder then you still need to cut or file down the pipe ends before making a decent connection.
Besides which once the stopcock is removed you would need to cut back the pipe and insert a new section and stopcock.Chopping out the stopcock just leaves 2 ends of pipe the gap between being too wide to fit a new stopcock.
So new bit of pipe also required.

I changed a stopcock last Thursday. From a 1/2" one on the old black plastic imperial size incoming main, to 22mm with an adapter from the black pipe to 22mm copper, then onto the existing 22mm copper.

All parts, labour and VAT at £130

:rotfl:What planet are some of you from :rotfl:

Angle grinder  no way :( the mess that would make of the pipe would mean more work :rotfl:

1/2 hour labour :rotfl: you have seen the picture havnt you  it not only needs a new stopcock but an additional section of pipe to make up the difference, its in a confined space, AND cleaning up that old pipe to take a fitting will probably take 1/2 hour :T
