But as a side note.....most people who claim to be smart aren't nearly as smart as they think they are (and the reverse is true, that most that say they are stupid are not as stupid as they think).

Using slang does not mean someone is not smart. Using uncommon (ie not used by average person - not that they are not commonly used by anyone) words doesn't mean that you are smart either (but funnily enough, its the first thing people usually do in an argument in order to appear smarter!).

Theres a saying "fly with the crows and you'll get shot with them too". But if a pigeon is there, it is still a pigeon even if the farmer thinks its a crow. D'ya get me? You thinking someone is dumb for the way they speak or someone thinking you are dumb for the way you speak (or dont) doesn't actually make them or you any dumber than you were previously. It has 0 effect so best to ignore it and move on.
