At 20 years of age, I would have to see the insurance quote with my own eyes to believe it.

Agreed, at the age of 18 I was quoted £1200 TPFT on my parents 1.6L Nissan Primera and that was 10 years ago... there's no way his insurance quote can be that cheap!

OP, seriously, I was in a similar position to yourself at your age and nearly bought a brand new Audi.

Instead, my parents talked sense into me, so instead I bought a second hand astra for 5k and it's done me well, defo got my moneys worth, covered 85000 miles and I'll part with it this Saturday for a second hand civic.
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

First of all, I would like to say many thanks to those who have given constructive feedback.

I have came to my sense from reflecting on posts on this thread, as well as having a discussion with my mum. It just isn't worth it and for the following reasons:

I have to pay £260 a month for 2 years for a car I will not owe
I have to sort out my own insurance mid range ONE OFF PAYMENT 1,xxx or £260 + pm
I have to pay fuel costs, £100 - £200 per month
    Service the car. £500 - £2000 for 2 years?

I'm looking at atleast 10k maybe more in total. that is not sensible at all. 10K in two years and have no car, not worth it.

I've seen a lovely vw polo gt tdi 2005 diesel 1.8 which has been modified inside and out which is owned by a middle aged gentleman which is for sale 5500, I really like it and I will go for that instead if all goes well. He has looked after it tremendously, full service history with vw and there's nothing for me to do. new turbo/cambelt/uprated brakes recently replaced.

I have done a quote on this car on moneysupermarket.com me main driver, addtional driver 32 years old, 13 year licence, the following mods:
Complete Body Kit, Alloy Wheels, After-market Exhaust System Approved For Road Use, Air Filter, Uprated Brakes, Driving Lights at it has came back with the following quote: I put my excess as £1000, which is crazy.. but oh well.

It's just not worth the leasing and i guess getting a car on finance? unless u can get 0% finance? Ok, many people on here will say why does a 20 year old still need to get a car for nearly 6k, get a cheap runabout, but it's not too expensive and what's been done to the car, I hope to get atleast 3-4k back in 3 - 4 years of ownership.

Getting on the property ladder, is my no.1 priority.

5500 is a lot of money to pay for an 05 Polo.

Two years ago I bought an 03 Astra. Excellent condition, only two owners from new, 60,000 miles, full service history and a full one year`s MOT.and nearly nine months road tax on it.

I paid £ 1000. And that was TWO years ago !

Really? I looked on autotrader and there some with x2 - x5 amount of millage and has cheapest is around 1600 less. This car has 50k miles, full body facelift worth 2.5k which I know is a fact. Miltek turbo back exhaust, brand new turbo, brand new original headlights, cambelt changed, custom red and black leather seats.

BRAND NEW UPRATED BRAKE DISCS,PADS AND CALIPERS, FRONT AND REAR,

It's deffo one best one on the market in that year and similar. full VWSH and car has been looked after.

Ofcourse I am genuine. I did insurance quotes, cheapest is 1800, with admiral. Yes, i have a salary of 24k a year.

I do not understand you regarding the £800 - 900 a month regarding the finance, I don't believe I will paying this much, other than 200 - 300 a month?

    Can you use a calculator?

The facelift and exhaust will double the insurance at least.

My son is 19 and the best quote from him on a 1.8 Punto HGT (no mods what so ever) came in at £5k. He drives a 1.0 Uno ie which costs him £2,100 insurance.

Worth adding that he has not held his full licence yet for 12 months and he has no convictions.

I doubt even if he had held his licence for +12 months, he would get anywhere near the OP's quote!

EDIT; Look at an Abarth Punto... performance specs with no mods.
