Take your own advice then. A 20 year old on a £24k salary with a £35k car doesn't add up to me.

would be pretty funny for a junior to roll up in the work car park with a better car than the company directors.

I think they'd drive better than an A class.

On your wage I would never consider purchasing a car that expensive

I'd go further. I wouldn't spend 35K on a car whatever my wages were. As others have said, thousands vanished as VAT, and more thousands lost in depreciation the minute you drive it off the forecourt. Money down the drain.

One thing if you have the cash, perhaps, but not something to get into debt over.

A class Merc and head turner not expected in the same sentence really. Nothing head turning about an A class Merc- we had one and it was reliable and a nice small car about town, very unexciting and DEFINITELY no headturner. Plus the depreciation was massive- new cost was about £20K, sold as a seven year old with low mileage in excellent condition, couldn't even get £2K for it!

Now there are exciting, headturning cars out there, OP, but an A class Merc certainly isn't one of them!

Think there is a slight difference between the pig ugly original A class it sounds like you are talking about, and the much better looking new model that OP is talking about.

For the deposit money you could get an older but much better car, a Civic Type R, Focus RS, C Class AMG, any number of japanese imports with insane power figures. All would be more fun and head turning than a sporty supermini with a premium badge, and leave you several hundred quid a month better off which you can spend on track days :)

There is no way on earth that I can recommend even considering buying a 35 grand car when your take home is a bit over 19 grand.

You WILL lose a fortune, and believe me, the novelty of having a shiny car will soon wear off when you have been making the payments for a while.

I can appreciate you'd like a nice car, but if you have 10 grand and really must spend it, spend it on a car you can afford outright. It needn't be new. Go on pistonheads.com for example and have a look at the many, many interesting and sometimes properly cool (whatever that means!) you can get for very little money.

FYI, at your age, driving such a car, people will think it's your mums car. Not cool.
    Skip dipper and proud....

At 20 years of age, I would have to see the insurance quote with my own eyes to believe it.
