I got some lovely presents last night from b-i-l's gf who I get on with really well now - we need to talk about kevin, the demented housewife(!!), and a book by Jodi Picoult (sp?). As well as a few bits that I wouldn't usually buy myslef so that was lovely
You are a brave, brave woman - 5 small children at once? I am full of admiration!
I've read "We need to talk about Kevin", it's a fascinating book....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
But did they prefix it with "My mummy says:" like my XOH's did. And dropped their mother right in it... :rotfl:
My sister once told her whole class at school proudly that her Daddy had gone to prison the night before, when she was about 5 years old.
My mother found the Headmistress drawing her aside for a concerned chat, some of the other kids told their parents, etc. My mother tried to explain that my Dad was a barrister and had gone to visit a client in prison on his way home from the office, but wasn't sure anyone believed her!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
However, I have issued an ultimatum - might seem really harsh I know, but I can't take it any more - basically, he has to chose between the drink and me (and therefore our life as a family etc). If he repeats the behaviour of the last few days (actually years, what am I on about?) then I will leave him.
I don't think you are being too harsh at all, I think you are absolutely right. Best of luck....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Hi Sea
Haven't posted for a while - but kept up with your diary. You go girl, sounds like you're heading for the right road - financial indepenance (at least the knowledge of it!) makes all the difference. I don't think you're being hard on your dh you've stood by him for so long and it is time for you to focus on YOU and the children. Heres hoping 2008 is your year!
love and hugs

Ditto. Sea, I haven't been reading much on here over the holidays, am horrified to find out how bad things are for you, and so glad to hear you've got your bessie mate over. Lots of hugs for you - I'll be homing in on your thread each time I log on now.

Hi all - thank you so much for the lovely messages of support.
My friend has just left after a wonderful visit. She gave me some really sweet birthday pressies and made Sophia the most adorable new coat (may well take photos of it!).
OH hasn't had a drink - day 5 now and I think this is the longest he's gone in about 4 years? Very proud of him - we were meant to be going to his sister's tonight for his mum's birthday do, but he said he couldn't trust his family not to put pressure on him to drink, even if he told them he wasn't drinking - a shame he can't do - another difference between mine and his family. He's been to the dr - not happy about the dr who described a 'typical' alcoholic (you know, drinking in the morning etc)_ and said that OH had to set his own limits (whether this be jsut not drinking at home g rr). But the dr did take bloods and has referred him to the alcohol service - don't know how long that will take though.
So things are improving - OH has surprised me all week actually - he is like a different person and I cannot believe that it's just down to him not drinking. it's crazy.
We forgot to get the car MOT'd and therefore can't get tax - rang to tell him expecting him to have a go at me as usual for not doing the tax before so then we'd have known, but he was fine about it - groaning about how it couldn't have been a year since hte last one etc. I know this might seem like a little thing, but it's just an example of how he's changing. He is also very tired and is going to bed much earlier, but is then able to get up early and go to work without the usual hassle. He is able to deal with work more too. If this is just froma few days, I look forward to when he's been off it for a while.
Better go - got so much to do - everything has been neglected over the last few days.
