Bit of a snag. :undecided: Don't know what this means, but she mentioned that she could put the money into my account in advance of my birthday ... but when I told her it was £1900 she sent back an e-mail:
You have a £2000 overdraft!. I thought you said it was £800
Which led to some recapping of past conversations by me - I had said I was using eighteen hundred of a two thousand pound overdraft, not an eight hundred pound overdraft. 'Sigh' on my part ... here we go again ...
With your help I soon won't need an overdraft. I'm recovering the cash with every week on this job, combined with keeping the spending to necessaries only. According to my spending log the biggest unnecessary spend I've made in the last three months is sitting in the wine rack, still in its jacket. [This is apart from her birthday presents where I went a bit overboard. - BW]

I want there to be less to worry about when it comes time to move or restructure the mortgage. I don't want to be carrying any high-interest debt forward to hamper our dreams.

When I get paid on the 29th I'll be close to £950-1000 if you don't want to commit that much money.
So far it's silent from the other end. I get the feeling that this will not go without comment. Harsh, embarrassing, denigrating comment. And it's very distracting to my work now.

    Hi BW

I wonder if using email is hampering decent communication between you and your wife? Do you get on any better if you speak to each other?

I wouldnt accept her help if that's her attitude - she is obviously brimming over with resentment. Is there someone else who could lend you £1900 for a week?

I do have a friend from whom I've borrowed in the past and is fully aware of my situation. In fact that's the benefactor providing the 'private loan' that I'm paying back - and because he knows so much about my situation and that he's helped me is why I have hesitated in calling him for more help.

I'll send him a message and see what reaction I get.

Just a suggestion - phone him, don't send a message. Lending/borrowing money is such a delicate subject you want to make sure to express every nuance of responsibility and gratitude, and I think written communications run the risk of being either too breezy or too impersonal.

    From the wife:
I can do it on Friday, but you will need to remind me.
    Phewww ...

I get paid on Friday, the amount will be closer to £1620.

I had just about sent the message to my friend, too. I've now changed the tone of that message from 'begging' to 'bragging'.

We have a long-standing relationship built on the web. We meet for pub crawls every 6 months or so, but most of our communication is by e-mail or PMs. Rules are: no irony or sarcasm without smileys. He's an accountant and is very clear when it comes to cash.

Thankfully I don't have to bring it up ...
