Mr Fox - you put up with so much from your wife it makes me  sometimes!

Perhaps you should give her the opportunity to get off her chest everything that's obviously bothering her about how the debt got built up in the first place - on the proviso that once she's aired everything it's said & done, as the past can't be changed there's no point re-hashing it ever again. It might make for a horrible evening, but if she keeps to her side of the bargain then you'll never have to worry about it again!

I agree!! It makes me mad too!

What exactly is her problem?!! You may have made mistakes in the past, but, it seems to me, that you're working very hard at putting those right! You can't change what's gone before but you can change what you can do in the future and that's what you're doing.

What more does she want? Blood?!!!

I think I read too much into the silence ... which is the problem with e-mail sometimes. We think it's instant communication when in reality work and other matters intrude in the midst of a conversation.

She was warm to me when she got home. Not only are we dealing with my finances and her pregnancy, but it's little things too. Trying to find her a new bicycle seat, for instance, or sourcing broadband (she's managed to get an allowance for it at work) or, most interestingly, she's been invited to apply for a position at a college in Edinburgh - flattering and a huge step up to c. £48k if she took it. I could be a kept man for that money ... :D

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. She'll transfer the money across and I'll give it back to her on Tuesday, just so we get two business days taken care of - can't be too careful. Then, armed with my statement, it's time to apply at A&L.

Meanwhile I need to write the cheque for my student loan. £100 per month from now on at least ... and when I get the overdraft settled I'll be shooting over £200 across the pond, at least until I can bring the debt over here and take it down in bigger chunks.

  • Best of luck with the A&L application, B.W. After all your effort you deserve success.

You say your wife may get a job in Edinburgh. Unless there's another Edinburgh near Croydon that's a heck of a long way! Would you both relocate or would she work there during the week and just see you at weekends? Early days,I know, she hasn't even been offered the job yet:rotfl:

Oh, it would be a relocation.

I nearly wrote 'relocation jobbie' but that doesn't translate well in Scotland. I thought, Dang, another language to learn ... just when I've mastered English English. (Although I'm getting rusty at American now ...)

The good thing is that for a relocation like that, she would have to be reimbursed for moving costs.

My daughter would go a bit c0ckeyed just trying to keep up with the accents. Midwestern American, Sussex English, and now that she's picked up Sarf London, on to Midlothian ... yikes.

Oh, well, pie in the sky! :)

We've told our respective parents about the baby.

Bank transfer has had to wait due to web transfer problems.

I've sent out a £120 cheque to the States for the student loan.

About to get broadband, the cheap BT version, to use my wife's work allowance.

Well, the money transfer has gone through. I'll start putting the money back in my wife's account on Tuesday, just to make sure that I get at least two working days covered above 0.

I've had a good week, kept my workweek spending below £6. I can't remember if I said that I'd maxed my credit card on grocery shopping but the money is waiting to pay it off. By the 29th I will have hit a new high for the year in my current account (money transfer excepted), fully recovered from the holiday spending.

And my legs are holding up with all the longer cycling!

Seems like things are turning around. Can't wait to enter all the payments on my snowball, and to change the % on the overdraft would be so cool ...

If the money transfer has gone through today I would leave it all day Monday and all day Tuesday and transfer it back on Wednesday to make 100% sure you meet the guidelines.

It might also be worth transferring it out in a few lumps, maybe with some as a cash withdrawal, to make it look like a more normal transaction then a ruse to get you the account.

The money's been in my account over the weekend and is going back tomorrow and Thursday.

It's listed as a 'loan'. I don't want to drag the wife into any joint money affairs but I can tell A&L that we do work as a team monetarily.

I want to take advantage of the offer without 'taking advantage', for what it's worth. I am making great strides to polishing things off.

I may have to sign off from this forum for a while, just to make sure my head is down and focused on getting the job.
