Fantastic news! Well done! You'll be able to pay your debts off faster now. Good old A&L, I love them! Getting rid of my NatWest overdraft at 18% was the best thing that's happened in my DFW journey so far.

    An update:

A&L came through but I only qualified for £700 on the overdraft. So while I now have the 0%, it's only approximately a third of what I currently need and I'm not yet to the point of ditching Additions.

Still, it will be nice to see the rise in the Barclays account when the money is going out of A&L instead. More motivation to save up.

I sat there for a couple of days, kind of scared to use the account. But now I've started to use it for a few things. Also I looked at the amount available and thought, "Ooh, it would be nice just to pay the fee for my citizenship application out of that ..." but I held back. I'm going to put about £400 into my Barclays account as I'm at a low ebb there with the credit card direct debit having gone through.

I just sent off a £120 cheque to the States to carve into my student loan. The exchange rate is just silly at the moment so I need to take advantage of that ASAP - as soon as this cheque goes through, the next one's going in the post. The last cheque didn't make as big a dent as I'd hoped due to interest accrued during the 6-month forebearance. I hope that I'll soon be able to drag the whole balance to the UK.

The family and I enjoyed the free goings-on at the Tour de France prologue last weekend. Lots of Haribo was included in the free swag that was pitched out of the caravane publicitaire. My daughter loved the Credit Lyonnais lion (she's hugely into The Lion King and Madagascar) and the colours of the riders - we're watching the Tour highlights on ITV4 every night now. We're thinking of taking a ferry and seeing the final stage on the Champs Elysees at the end of July - like my wife and I did last year.

All's well with the job. There are days where I feel on top of things, other days where I feel under the cosh, but I'm still here.

I've been offline for quite a while but that's been to focus on getting the work done.

    Talk to you soon,

    B

One thing that's been eating at me this month.

I've been spending £4.90 four times a week to catch the train back home. Lots of cash for me. As I was sick a few weeks back I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to have a relapse by cycling too hard/too far. So I really backed off on the intensity of the outward ride, and haven't done the return trip by bike since.

The only thing is that I'm at about the same energy level now (i.e. knackered) as I was when I was riding about twice as much, twice as hard.

I'm thinking about getting a check-up in case I've got a lingering bug.

My anniversary is coming up in less than two weeks and I'm stuffed for a nice present. A weekend away would be nice ... but coastal hotels are on high season rates.

Thought about booking a trip to France to see the last stage of the Tour de France again, but ... I'm chickening out when I see the prices.
