This is how I and countless 100's of other motorists use the lanes on the roundabout, cant make it much more simple and clearer than that.

Anyhow what's done is done markings could be better though.

Maybe from now on you will hang back a bit now that you realise the road signage is very poor. And maybe you will treat HGV on roundabouts with a lot more courtesy from now on.

And can we point out that he was 70 miles from home

Was wondering where the roundabout was by comparison to where the lorry was from.

Local knows the road, tries a strider.

I actually suspect the OP knew what the lorry was up to due to his acceleration into the middle lane and deliberately manufactured the situation.

You find a lot of youtube dash camera posters do the same.

Plain and simple the tanker driver was in the wrong lane - here's an overhead view of the junction .

Have a look at the junction and tell me that he was right .... I beg to differ. If you look at the aerial view then clearly the left lane is for the first Lh turn and straight on to the A18, Middle lane for the A630 and the right lane for the A630 and the supermarket.

Yes, but when you are driving you are not looking at the aerial view, you are looking at the view from your windscreen.

If you look at the video at 0:32 seconds, the view from your windscreen seems to suggest that, from your position, the correct lane to go to on the roundabout is to the right hand lane. Where the other car is supposed to go I don't know!

Just put it down to a badly laid out, ill signed junction.

(PS, why does the footage cut so suddenly? What are you not showing after the 'incident'? ;))

Because he zooms through out of nowhere (from the tanker drivers point of view) Everyone else arrives at the roundabout and stops, whilst he [tanker] is checking for a gap he sees a gap starts to move off, maybe even checks his mirrors and can't see OP -because he is zooming through his blind spot.-

This is why you are supposed to give HGVs a wide berth at roundabouts.

Ahhh but the tanker driver has a better view of the road layout well before I get there so he should have realised he was in the wrong and indicated. Had he done that the situation would not have arisen and I would have held back.

If he cant see me he must have been blind in one eye - I drive a fully liveried white and blue van not a car as everyone assumed. So he had at least 300yds to have seen me you can see his drivers mirrors in the vid so I could see them he could see me.

I had clear view of the roundabout when the tanker turned into the left lane and I into the right hand lane before the junction, as the tanker slowed and stopped my speed reduced and I was able to see the white van on the roundabout and no other vehicles after that other than the car going into the supermarket, I had no need to stop completely so carried on simple bit of driving that advanced drivers are taught, keep off the brakes and let the gears do the work then stop if needed.

I was 56 miles from home ! and ? no excuse not to read the road even if he's not from around there, you don't take sat navs as gospel when you are out of familiar surroundings do you ? I certainly don't.

Just because you can see his mirror does not mean that he can see you in his mirror, there is a world of difference between the two.

I've already stated that he was also in the wrong for not taking caution when he realised he was trapped.

I know why you didn't slow down, I'm just saying it was dangerous to do so given that drivers in that left lane could be intending to take the A630 due to poor signage.

If you want to have an argument with a huge lorry on a poor rbt with you accelerating down his side out of nowhere then go ahead....you will come off worst in the accident and there would be no guarantee that you would get a no fault claim at the end of the day.

It just seems a bit stupid to me when 30 seconds extra time of holding back would see you able to safely accelerate past him on the exit.

And this idea that he has got a birds eye view of the rbt well in advance is also IMHO wrong. The video clearly shows a dip under the bridge and a rising approach to the rbt. I'm sure he didn't realise he had to take the 3rd exit until he was right on top of the rbt.

Large vehicles may need more room. This is a small hgv which on this island does not need the extra space a longer or articulated vehicle would. The problem would be the same if all the vehicles were cars. The hgv can see there are two lanes alongside him at the entrance to the island. If he drives onto the island as intended there is only one spare lane. Its a poorly marked island.

IMO unmarked roundabout - you should have excercised extra care - perhaps given the HGV extra room

The HGV driver should have maybe considered the layout of the roundabout and anticipated others uncertainty about his position.
