Have you actually looked at the photo of the island ?

He wasn't indicating left or right saying to me he was going straight on along the A18....simples ;)

The chevrons on the second exit give you a clue as to the purpose of the Lh lane and the way they extend onto the junction.

But you could have given him room as he was at the roundabout before you and you squeezed through between him and the car in the right lane.

If you had held back for a few seconds the issue wouldnt have arisen.

    give HGVs more room, simples

Hardly squeezed in between them, there's THREE lanes ! the video doesn't lie, he got into his lane, I got into my lane, car was in his lane...sheesh ! where's the squeeze ?

I ask again has ANYBODY ACTUALLY LOOKED AT THE GOOGLE PHOTO ?

The majority of the island is marked as two lanes. This entrance has three lanes. For it to be marked as three lanes its assumed there are three routes from this entrance. The logical route from the left hand lane on this island is the second exit. If there were cars in all three lanes, none taking the second exit, one would need to yield. Its the same here except lane 1 has a hgv in it. The hgv driver should have used lane 2, or lanes 1 and 2 together if needed. Direction arrows would help.

Have a look at the junction and tell me that he was right .... I beg to differ. If you look at the aerial view then clearly the left lane is for the first Lh turn and straight on to the A18, Middle lane for the A630 and the right lane for the A630 and the supermarket.

If you consider the road sign at 0:21 it does not indicate the first exit, on a cursory glance of this road sign then the tanker selecting that LH lane would be appropriate for the A630 because that is remaining on the main road and it is legitimate to be in the LH lane and pass 1 exit.

When he arrives at the rbt he (being an HGV) cannot simply switch lanes. You creep up behind him down his right flank and zoom out into the rbt before he has a chance to even see you. I wouldn't be surprised if he did not know you were there.

On the plan of the roundabout he was attempting to pass a 2nd exit on the outside of a rbt and so he should have exercised extreme caution. You can't see this in the video.

It was no surprise that he approached in that lane due to poor road signs and lane markings.

I think given all of the circumstances, him being an HGV, poor signage, poor lanes, your "zoom zoom - appearance out of nowhere straight out into the rbt"........... that you should have held back and waited to see where he wanted to go and he should have excercised extreme caution when he realised he had been trapped.

Fault on both sides, but you really should have known better.

A18, A630, & Supermarket, and it is legitimate to pass the 1st exit, so the LH lane is appropriate, it is only once you have arrived at the rbt that you discover a new surprise 1st exit before the A18 by which time it is too late for a HGV to swap lanes.
The logical route from the left hand lane on this island is the second exit.
It would be if you knew the A18 was a second exit, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

The car behind should have held back as a cautionary approach.

This is how I and countless 100's of other motorists use the lanes on the roundabout, cant make it much more simple and clearer than that.

Anyhow what's done is done markings could be better though.

Why get annoyed at a car which is legitimately in a lane alongside you when you discover you need to change lane. The road is poorly marked.

I've seen you've put red lines into suit

The tanker is a company vehicle, you own your car. Your car weighs 1000kg lgvs weigh up to 44000kg. Who's gonna come off worse?

Show some restraint, it'll save you money and grief

Because he zooms through out of nowhere (from the tanker drivers point of view) Everyone else arrives at the roundabout and stops, whilst he [tanker] is checking for a gap he sees a gap starts to move off, maybe even checks his mirrors and can't see OP -because he is zooming through his blind spot.-

This is why you are supposed to give HGVs a wide berth at roundabouts.
